i recently got a pronto on ebay - a tsu1000 - the one with the light sensor on it. overall it works well - i can program it with prontoedit just fine, but the problem is that if i try to teach it any IR codes from another remote it always fails.

i put it into learn mode, press a button on the pronto that i want to learn a code into and then press the button on the other remote that i am teaching with. i point it right at the IR window on the front of the pronto and every time it fails.

is it possible that the pronto's IR sensor just went bad? is this a common thing? how could I remedy this?

You need to point at the IR Sensor at the BACK of the Pronto.

Just about everyone has been stung by this. It does not help that the Marantz remotes are VERY similar but they learn on the other end!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

What got me was when I upgraded from a 1000 to a 9200, the 9200 learns at the front. Actually had to read the manual - doh!!!

Because the Marantz and the Pronto do not use the same order for the buttons volume up and down, channel up and down, and mute, I have to look at every remote I program every time I program one. I know that is what my eyes are for, but I am so used to just swinging away (again) at the same target in the dark, and hitting it!
