I have just bought an RC5000 remote and I keep getting COM1 Port open but RC5000 is not responding I have tried various items like changing the com port using a serial-usb adapter and just connecting to the laptop via the serial port. I am running it on an IBM T41 thinkpad on xp with rc5000 ver 2.3.1 and at this point in time I am not sure what to do. I would appreciate any help on this.

First off, I would suggest searching this forum first - this has been addressed many, many times in great detail. Beyond that, if none of the solutions provided in other posts help, we would need more information - which program - RC5000 Setup or Touch Screen Setup? Which USB to serial adapter? What version of XP - Pro or Home? What other software do you have running? PDA software, etc...

Although it's likely that the usb adapter is the problem, you might try tapping the screen to wake up the remote just prior to attempting communication. If that doesn't work, you will probably need to use a different adapter.

Guys thanks for the replies. I have searched the forum extensively and I have tried a lot of the solutions but none seem to work. I am using xp pro and I have no other PDA type software running on my laptop. I am using rc5000 software 2.3.1. The serial adapter is one that I got from work so I am not sure of the type. I did try to connect to my docking station via the serial ccable and connection adn turned com1 on but this did not work. Really stumpped..........

You should be using Touch-Screen-Setup version 2.0.4. Scrap that old RC5000 Setup POS and download the good stuff.

You can also try Tonto from [Link: giantlaser.com].

Guys thanks a mil for all your help it turned out that the serial cable was dodgy and I had to build a new one. The remote is working without any problems.
