I have just bought a home theater system and a RC5200. The guy who sold me the equipment programmed the RC and it has been working fine. All equipment is set as IR so far. Anyway I downloaded the touchscreen setup software at marantz.com to include a device on the RC. When I tried to download my modified configuration back to the RC I got an error message, as if the RC were protected not allowing the programming to be modified. Then, the first question is how to download a modified configuration to the RC without being prevented by this errror message. The second question is as follows: I have a RF remote control to turn a light on and off (this is the device I would like to include in the RC). Is it possible for the RC to learn this RF command? All other equipment is IR and I do not have an RF extender (I guess it would not be necessary, since the light command is purely RF). Please help me on that. Thanks, Andre

Not directly. The RC5200 has no RF receiver.

Whether you will be able to control the RF light depends on the RF carrier frequency used by your RC5200 and by the RF carrier frequency used by the RF light. The North American version of the RC5200 uses 418MHz while the European version uses 433.92MHz. Either version might be sold in Brazil - I don't know.

It also depends on the type of modulation used by the RF light. The RC5200 can only do ASK (Amplitude Shift Keying) or OOK (On/Off Keying - special case of ASK) which may also be called CPCA (Carrier Present, Carrier Absent).

If the frequencies and modulation methods are OK, you still need a way to learn the codes. What is the brand name of the RF light? Do you have any technical information on it?

Read through the application notes here...

Congratulations! You have just been baptized with about the kindest version of the "tell us more so we will have a CLUE if we can help you" speech, that just about every new user gets. Kudos to Dave for being so nice about it.

In addition to looking into the RF approach, and again, as we do not know what product you have, let me suggest that some products have the ability to be IR controlled; if so, the question is, is the RF approach or the IR or IR/RF approach going to be easier, quicker and/or cheaper to implement? So ask your manufacturer, or search the web for your brand, to see about that.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
