My beloved Pronto was placed in close proximity to my two and a half year old daughter and has suffered the consequences (although she has denied everything).

When I touch the screen the backlight comes on but nothing is displayed. Ditto if I hit the backlight button. Adjusting contrast has no affect (screen stays bright). Tried changing the batteries, removing them for extended periods and updating the firmware but all these failed.

Couldn't find anything in the FAQ or archives about this particular problem. Initially, being a glass half full type of guy, I thought this presented the ideal opportunity to upgrade to the NG. Sadly my wife got wind of my plans (and more importantly the cost) and laid them to rest.

Any suggestions gratefully received (bar changing the wife that is).

You could try taking the remote apart for a loose connection of the screen. There are three screws. Two under the battery cover, and one under the sticker. It's in the middle of the buttom part of the sticker, Right next to the word "RESET".

Same thing happened to me. $119 later, my 2000 is like new.

GreySkies - what did the problem prove to be and how did you resolve it ?

p.s. I haven't opened my Pronto yet (need to get the necessary tools) - tomorrow hopefully.

I ended up sending it to the Philips Repair Depot. The paperwork that I got back from Philips didn't say what was wrong. It appears that I have a new screen. I haven't opened it up since getting it back. I had opened it before I called Philips and couldn't find anything obviously wrong.

Good Luck
