Hi, is this a good deal? The store I purchased my home theater system will sell and program the RC5200 for $599. They will test all of my equipment at my home. Is this a reasonable offer?

The alternative to this is buying a simple remote like the Harmony. That's the limit of my techie capabilities, and I'm being kind. My HT system is not all that simple and I have 9 devices. Thanks.

Well... The 5200 is discontinued now..... I'm sure it will control your 9 device system just fine.....

Sound to me like they're gonna lose a bunch of money on that deal.....

Average programming time on a 5200 for 9 items is about 4 - 5 hours and that would include some trick aliases and channel icons but the programming alone would be about $200 to $300 so yeah...That would be a great deal.

They sure will!

Before you do this deal, make sure that when they say "Program," they mean that there will be a home page where you can touch individual buttons for each source, where for instance, one labeled "DVD" would, with one button push:

turn on your A/V receiver
turn on your TV
put the TV and the A/V receiver on the proper inputs
turn on the DVD (this can usually be done with a PLAY command)
put the DVD into PLAY (if it was turned on a different way
and then the remote would switch to a DVD page with your basic operation controls.

It is unlikely, but possible, that when they say "program," at this price, they mean teach the commands but not make any macros. Without macros you would have to switch from one device to another to turn everything on and pick the right input. Unlikely, but SO IS THAT PRICE!

Is the unit new or refurbished? Is the warranty the same as a new unit?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
