Hi,

About a year ago, I purchased a Philips Pronto 940 2mb remote control and after having found it incompatible with my Blueyonder digital TV cable box, I found out through this forum that I needed to purchase a ‘Red Eye’ component. This I did, and found it very easy to set-up and use. In fact it worked first time using a ccf file I downloaded from the files are here.

It is continuing to work perfectly, but I am having a second Blueyonder digital TV cable box installed on Friday morning, and wondered if anybody here knew if BY still uses the same box ( I think mine is a ST1000) or do they use newer boxes, and if so, do they work OK with the Pronto, or do I need to purchase another’ Red Eye’?

I ask, because I don’t want to spend hours trying to get any new box to work with the my Pronto, if all I need is a second ‘Red Eye’

All advice, pointers etc most welcome.

Regards

Galen

This is a matter of dividing the universe several times, first into whether the new unit responds to the old remote, then etc etc as below.

First, plan this out in advance. When the new box arrives, you want to convince the installer that you have to check out some things. Maybe tell him that you might not actually accept the product if it does not pass muster....

Take the new box and install it in place of the old one. Try controlling it with the old and the new remote controls; this will tell you if you should expect your Pronto to be able to control it.

Then, if both will control it, try the Pronto without the Red Eye. If it controls it, then you have that answer.

If it does not control it, use the Red Eye that you already have, and see if it works through that.

This will tell you everything.

If the old remote will not control it, then you will have to learn a few new commands in your Pronto, then try them out, so get a new device page ready with some blank commands.

Is there any chance that the new receiver, if it has to use a Red Eye, can simply be installed where the old one is, and the old one moved to the new location? This would make it easier on the installer, but only a bit, if he would go along with you.

Good luck.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
