I bought a very nice SlimDevices Squeezebox recently and would like to use discrete power control with it. The following URL has discrete codes from someone with an RC9200. I can't seem to input them into the Tonto editor I use with OS X. Can anyone help??

[Link: slimdevices.com]

Thanks,
Jon

Is Tonto the only program you can run?

You might have to bite the bullet and actually use a PC program to get around this.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The codes in those files are 900B template or shorthand code for one of the NEC protocols- I trnasposed these to regular hex- try these:

The 2000 does not handle 900x codes. They were introduced later.

I suggest you get the DecodeCCF program from the Yahoo JP1 group for decoding such CCF files and the MakeHex program (also from Yahoo JP1) for re-encoding signals.

I'm pretty sure those programs decode 900B values correctly and encode NEC2 correctly. I'm pretty sure you reversed the bit sequence and left out the 0000 needed for non repeat length. From MakeHex I get:

John,

Thanks for the correction and catching the error- not sure what I did to accomplish that incorrect feat- my generator works fine and has the 0000 for the repeat burst pairs and the correct sequence for NEC2. Of coarse if I'd looked closely after I pasted, I should have noticed,but I guess I was in a hurry this morning.

Ernie,

I don't believe this has anything to do with Tonto, but rather the 2000.

Interesting stuff, I don't have the ability to test this yet from my current location, but I will. So I can't say from this discussion, but are you saying that if I enter the following that it should work?

Sadly, they didn't seem to work. Either one. It was emitting a signal though, as the light flickered quite quickly on the nearby Xantech IR receiver.

I posted my CCF at [Link: schalliol.com] if anyone could try to download it and figure out what perhaps I might have done wrong.

I store my codes in the Macros folder under Codes (it may be strange, but I like it) and the Squeezebox codes are near the bottom of the Codes sub-folder with On & Off being these from above and Pwr being the one that was learned from my remote.

Thanks for your help thus far, and I hope someone gets an opportunity to check this out :-D Thanks!!

I don't see the error in the CCF.

Your learned signals for the Squeezbox match the corresponding signals in that other file (from which you got the discrete codes).

Your On and Off signals match the ones I posted (which match the On and Off from that other file).

Did you try the On and Off commands directly (as the only action on a button)? Or did you go directly to testing them in a sequence (as I assume they are intended)? Some function work as the only action on a button but need some extra tweaking for use in a sequence.

I also noticed that your learned commands all have internal command numbers in the range 0 to 32. That other file has those same command numbers for those same keys, but also has several keys with much higher command numbers, including the Off and On with command numbers 225 and 241. It seems strange that the set of commands you learned are all the ones with low command number, if the device actually has its command numbers scattered over a wider range (for things like search-artists, search-album, search-song, and the similar browse commands). But I don't know what that means. If you know anything about those other commands that the other file has that you don't, that might indicate something about discrete On/Off.

It is confusing indeed. I don't understand what's wrong. I go to the actual codes for on and off. I can see that they're emitting, but nothing happens. This guy does have it working well on his RC9200 though. Hmm...

Are you using the Xantech in the system- if so can you do direct to the unit instead of thru the Xantech? Just a thought.

dwg, Actually I'm just going direct to the unit. The non-discrete power button works as promised, just not on & off

Here's a thought.
And I'm embarassed I didn't point this out to him when he asked me about the file.

The squeezebox doesn't have a discrete on and off by default you have to add it.

I created a file called RC9200.ir in the \server\ir directory.

This is a copy of the slim_devices_remote.ir file with a few additions / changes.

I added these lines:

#####################################################################################
# Extra commands
#####################################################################################

# The following are extended IR commands for programmable remotes
#playdisp_pbet= 76897887# progress bar + elapsed time
power_off= 76898778
power_on= 76898f70
menu_search_artist= 768954ab
menu_search_album= 76895ca3
menu_search_song= 768952ad
menu_browse_artist= 7689748b
menu_browse_album= 76897c83
menu_browse_music= 7689728d
menu_browse_playlists= 76897a85

This enables the discrete functions I added.

In the web interface you then tell the server to use the custom IR file.

Rgds,
Bruce.
