I'm nearly finished programming my RC5200 screens using Tonto. I'm now playing around with downloading the IR codes from Remote Central. One thing in particular leaves me a little confused.

I have downloaded one or two code sets and there appears to be 2 seperate codes for the on/off button. How does this work if the original remote only has one button for the on and off command (and presumably one code to go with it) and how do I program a single on/off button on the RC5200 CCF? (These are in the general CCF downloads and not discrete code files)

Separate on/off codes are discrete codes. The single code would be a toggle code - which would be the same as on the original remote. You usually want to use the discrete codes only.

In all probability, they ARE discrete codes. One of them just turns the TV off (does nothing if it's already off) and the other just turns it on. These things are VERY useful for creating macros. If they are discretes, they'll work even though they aren't on the OEM remote.

How do you use them - put them in a macro designed to turn all your equipment off or on.

But what if I want just one on/off button on one device screen as per the OEM remote?

Many CCF's that take advantage of Discrete power commands dont include the Toggle command. If you need the togle command, look through some more CCF's or Learn it into you system.

You usually set things up so that:

- the home page has a button for watching TV which uses a macro that turns on all the necessary devices and sets the appropriate inputs; this then jumps to your Watch TV page

- on the TV page, you have a button to go back to the home page

- if you select something else like Listen to a CD, the button has a macro which turns the TV off, and turns on the CD

- when you eventually finish, you use a button that turns everything off

Nowhere in the above is there a need for a toggle power.
