RC Geek: Sorry bout that. After re-reading your post Looks like I didnt read your second sentence good enough. My Bad.

Keith: regarding your TV.... THe Zenith's "Faroudja" chip is NOT the same chip they use inthe NRS scalers and such. To be honest, its not much better (If better at all) than the built in scalers used in the Sat Boxes. Dont get me wrong, thats not a bad things, and helps them keep the price 10k less than most of the competition. If you DO need all three, the samsung migh serve your purpose well.

As I mentioned, a second base station probobly isnt necessary. You can buy a basic Infra Red amplifier for less than a second RF Receiver. Look for a SpeakerCraft AT-1.0, and Power supply (And you'll need a few more emmitters as well)

(Sorry about HTML error above... I'll fix that)

Impaqt,

Yeah, I'm aware that that scaler isn't necessarily the best thing in the world, and I'll let you know what I think when I can actually see it compared, but my understanding is that it is MUCH (and I mean MUCH) better than the scaler in the DSS reciever. Plus then the receiver will scale to 1080i and the TV will re-scale to 1280 x 768 progressive as that is it's native pixels... I have yet to see any of these receivers for my own eyes... what are your thoughts on the interface/guide/menu... as that is a very important factor.

As for the IR issue I see the product listed everywhere, but can't seem to find speakercrafts site. So is this devise essentially an IR D/A 1 in mult out OR act as a blaster?

Also does anyone know if the emitters that come with it will pass IR from another remote. Following a number of links from thin thread (thanks all) I have seen many that do... and I would replace the ones that come with it, so that a standard remote can be used.

Keith,

Read your post on the avs forum, sounds like you are of to a good start. What kind of audio sources will you be sending to other rooms and how many rooms. Have ever considered a multi room controller for that. The denon AVR3803 has zone 2 video output and is a good piece (use it a lot). Some speakers to look into if you are gonna do all in-wall system are www.triadspeakers.com and www.atlantictechnology.com Does the Zenith DVI Input use the internal scaler or just receive the signal? if it only passes the signal, which i think it does, what does it matter what the Sat box does with it? I have used the samsung boxes alot and have had very good luck with them, only complanit has been that they are a little slow with direct channel input.

AVTAS1,

Thanks for the info!

I will be using Zone2 for video and audio together, there will (almost never) be a time I am interested in audio alone. I will have zone 2 D/A'ed to all my recording devices AND a RF Modulator that will send signals to other rooms via RG6 Coax.

I am looking up the Denon now (There site is REALLY slow right now!). Is it's Zone2 Video S-Vid?

The Zenith does NOT have a DVI in only 15-pin analog and Component RCA's. Whatever it takes in it will scale to it's native 1280 x 768 progressive.

How do you like the guide on the samsung? When you say direct channel input what do you mean? Do you mean when you press 380 it takes longer than if you select it from the guide?

Hmmm.... Looks like my Reply got lost.... Thats odd...

ANyway, I cant rmeber expactly what I posted yesterday, but was something like

SPeakerCrafts site is Http://www.speakercraft.com

I find that Guide systems/User interfaces are largly personal preference.... I like my RCA Sat receivers over the Sonys and Hughes, and I like my UltimateTV interface Much more than Tivo Interfaces... But I largely suspect thats because its what I was introduced to first.....

Do you Satellite now? if so what brand are you currently suing?

As far as IR passing through the emmitters, Most do, and the ones that dont can usually be positions in a way that does not totally obstruct the receiver.... Rarely do I have change emmiteres due to the fact that the block the original remote completely....

You can control as many devices as you want with One RF extender. using a Xantech amplified conecting block # 791-44, you can directly wire the otput of the RF extender to the block allowing up to 20 controlled devices by doing the fallowing.
-take one of the emitters that came with the extender and cut the emitters off the cable before they split.
-use an ohm meter to ring out the cable ie. the tip of the conector is the IR IN. the sleeve of the conector is the GND.
-once you have identified the IR In and GND you can wire them accordinly to the block.
-IMPORTANT If you are going to be conecting any other IR inputs to the block than use a diode in sieries with the IR IN negative side towards the block, this keeps the RF extender from getting back fed.
