OK, I have searched the forum and read all the FAQs and I am at a loss to try and get my pronto to connect with either pronto edit (v 4.0.5) or tonto. I got this 6 months ago and am about ready to throw it away! In pronto edit I get the message, com port opened but no response from RC device. Tonto says can not locate remote on any ports. Using the great info I've found searching the forum here, this is what I've done so far:

Killed the com port and let windows rebuild (running XP Home)
Tried tapping the screen, holding backlight, fiddle with connection, new batt
Disabled firewalls, anti virus security, just about everything I can think of
I have no pda software and can not find any com or irq conflicts

Still, same message every time. Is there anything else I can do? My girlfriend (who gave this to me) is getting a complex 'cause she's yet to see me use it, becasue I need to customize it first. Any held greatly appreciated, thanks! and sorry if this has been covered a million times, I searched and could not find any more clues...

possibly a bad cable, or serial port on the pc, or mini-plug(socket) on the pronto. try wiggling them around a bit. i remember reading somewhere that pushing the plug ALL THE WAY INTO the pronto & then pulling it back out just a hair's width helps, sometimes.

if you know how to use a multimeter (or diode checker) check the cable using the pin-outs in the faq.

try connecting to another pc (yes, you will need to install peV4.0.5 on the second pc, first, but you can then uninstall if you need to).

make sure you reboot your pc after installing pronto edit.

Not really..... He could always go to File----Pack and Go----Save to floppy disk. Connect the pronto to a different pc. Put in the floppy disk and download the ccf from the Pack and Go file.

The pack and go file is a self downloader for times like this. Of course this is just a test to see if it will work. If it does, then there's something wrong with your pc.

If not, then it might be the cable, and/or remote.

When I first got my prontopro I had a LOT of difficulty in being able to download a new CCF file into the pronto. I saw several messages where others had the same or simular problem. The dreaded reset message. I solved this by NOT using the cradle to connect the serial port cable to. Instead I connected the serial port cable directly into the pronto. I still got the dreaded reset message, however this time I was able to flip the remote over and press the reset button without having to remove the pronto from the cradle and breaking the connection. Since the pronto was directly connected I could press the reset button when requested and the file uploaded properly. After I was able to upload the first ccf file I was never asked to press reset again. Hope this helps. If not, try updating your firmware.

I am going out of my freaking mind. I can upload and download to my TS1000, but not to my TSU6000. I just did the other day and all went fine. I designed some custom buttons tonight and went to update my CCF and it says the device isn't responding. I tried waking it up 3 different ways (tapping screen, motion activating, and backlight button. I tried resetting it, and I tried taking the battery out and replacing. Someone please have some advice before I throw it against a wall.

The Pronto is kinda funny when it comes to COM ports. Since it is from the old school it does not normally conform to the way XP at times configure the port. Due to plug and play somtimes XP may configure a port but not according to the standard settings that has been established prior. The pronto is looking for the standard settings such as COM1 should use IRQ 4 and COM2 use IRQ 3. It might be necessary to check and/or reconfigure the COM port in XP to reflect the settings expected by the pronto. If I remember clearly XP usually set IRQ 5 on COM1. That IRQ does'nt fly with Pronto. If you find that the settings u wnat to use are in use by another device u can force XP to use the settings u want.

Hope this info helps.

Hey, you're not alone. My Pronto pro was downloading
pc to pronto fine. Didnt need upload on XP machine.
Then POOF Bill Gates stole my CCF. Wont upload.
I'm getting the exact same message. I'm stopping at erasing the CCF to replace firmware. My assumption is the firmware is old. Ive tried on an old laptop
an old Pronto edit program. Same thing.
Hey Phillips My $1000 remote is locked up!
Its working fine with the current CCF, but time to mod!

So you don't have your ccf on your pc? I know this from your other reply of another thread. It's best for you to keep your "problem(s)" in one thread. So that we don't have to answer you more than once.

So far You've made your own thread. Located here

And you replied to other threads, hours after I replied to your orginal thread. Here as well as here.

Now please leave your replies to your orginal posting. It will help us, and yourself alot.

Thanks

Rob
