It seems that satellite would be slower and not respond as rapidly with the increased volume of signal that is sent. Is this true?

with home satellite, you are at the whim of the weather.

but when it comes down to it, even cable is satellite based (to some extent).....but comparing the dishes, it's like they've got an olympic sized swimming pool and all's you get is a tea-cup - they can gather much more signal and weather isn't so much of a problem.

Edmund and others:

I have included this apology here for you as well as posting this in the other (as I now understand, correct) forum.

Please accept my apology for not understanding the forums. I have learned from this experience, and hope to contribute someting constructive in the future.

What I had hoped to receive, based on an honest request, is an answer as to which is better, from the experts...you guys...for HDTV. SAT has been good for me for many years before I got into HD. Because of the difficulties described below, I am considering changing providers to cable, if the HD component of their service is better. If not, I must reconsider the issues of dealing with DirectTV. The reason I chose this forum, is that there are so many experts, including yourselves, that contribute to this forum.

Again, please accept my apology.

Dan,

Thank you for putting me straight. I am new to the forums and am an end user. Unfortunately, I have been placed in the unenviable position of programming a remote because my installers were too busy to do the job. Regretably, I am not used to forums and request that you forgive my misunderstanding of the forum.

My post regarding Direct TV was based on many long electronic messages when calling them, only to end at a dead end. After hours of calling, I did finally reach someone. A tech came to my house to repair the Direct TV, and asked if he could use the phone. No problem. He enters the electronic closet, and looks at my satellite service, comes out and said the system would have to be completely re-installed. He wanted to use the phone again, and the system didn't work. When this happened, he was told that he must have bumped something that caused the phone to quit working. The same day, I had a phone repair person out, and indeed the DirectTV repair person had inadvertendly dislodged some phone modules. This is understandable, but it is not understandable that he vehemently denied touching the phone system. Upon his return, he was to be at the house between the hours of 8 and 12 am. Since I did not have anyone else above the age of 18 to be at the house, I stayed home to wait for him to show him were the phone system was, and to have him not to repeat the same thing. I am a medical doctor, and missing 4 hours of work IS a big thing to me. He did not show during the 4 hours, only to tell me that he was too busy to be there during the scheduled time. DirectTV said they would credit my account for $20. for my trouble. I will be willing to bet that none of you on this forum is in the $5.00 per hour wage category...nor am I.

Do you not consider this to be bad service?

Since the DirectTV repair man could not show up in their time schedule, they had to reschedule for the next week. I asked them only to show up later the same day, when I could have my business manager here...they said they could not.

My question about which is better DirectTV or cable as to HDTV quality, was based on my thought to change providers, and was an honest question that I thought I could receive a sincere, and honest answer from the experts in the field of home theater and remote control.

Please accept my apologies for any mistakes I made in my posts. I will try to understand the system, and when I do, I will try to be an addition to any forum.

Thank you.
