check the file section of this web site. Just because the modle number's dont' match doesn't mean it won't work. If you already checked the file section. Then tells us next time or else help might not come.

I saw nothing about Technosonic or DVD-204 in the file section... I have no idea which ccf to try... I cannot try each ccf. If someone have this player and a Pronto, he can make me a ccf and ship me this by email...Thanks...

If you can find out who makes Technosonic players you might find a similar device under another brand name.

three things you can try

1) asking tech support there if it is rebranded, then who makes it. If not, then ask if they can find out what the IR code set is used.

2) go to the store you bought it from and ask the guy if you can bring your learning remote there and teach the codes using their remote.

3) post a pic of the remote here, if it is rebrannded, someone might recognize the remote.

Their web site makes a major point of the fact that they manufacture the whole thing themselves at their own manufacturing plants in China. If true, then the rebranding question would be who else do they sell to, rather than who makes it for them.

They also have a FAQ section, including a question about their IR signals, which links to an answer which is basically a refusal to answer. I guess that means they've been asked this question many times before and want to standardize their refusal to answer it.

2) go to the store you bought it from and ask
the guy if you can bring your learning remote
there and teach the codes using their remote.

I can't think of any answer other than that one.

3) post a pic of the remote here, if it is

someone might recognize the remote.

A lot of remotes look alike and not many people remember exactly what their remote looks like. The above sounds like an extreeme longshot.

Since nobody here seems to be able to help, your only option might be to contact the company and see if they'll sell you a new remote.

John, I did notice the manufacturing part, but
1) they could still buy most of the equipment
2) I missed the FAQ, but we don't kneed the full IR, just who's chipset it uses.

I thought of another way to find it (but didn't follow through and do the search myself).

This DVD is listed on several of the DVD hacking sites, which give the sequence of key presses needed to make it region free. Unlike typical DVD hacking, these are all keypresses on the orriginal remote, so the hacking sites DON'T give Pronto hex for these signals (which would have made it easy).

With a few attempts and choosing the right internet search site, it should be possible to get a list of all the other brand/models of DVD which use the same (unusual) sequence of hacking steps. I'm sure all (and probably only) DVD's that share those hacking steps will share the underlying IR protocol.

IMHO,

With a name like Technosonic, it has to be under $100.00 USD. Most places will charge @ least $35.00 USD for a remote. Buy yourself another player then you have 2 for 1 and you also have the remote.

Your remote does not work and you have no idea what to do. What is your objection to a long shot? A lot of us creatures who lurk around this site are tweaks and nerds and might well remember that they saw one of these a few weeks ago and it is...right over there...under those papers...and that packet of pumpkin seeds...yup! There it is!

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Notice above that the person whose remote doesn't work isn't the same person as (me) the person who called that idea a long shot.

My primary objection to that long shot is that at least four better ideas have been touched upon here.

1) Find other brands that use the same codes by a search of DVD hacking sites.

2) Take a learning remote to a retail store that sells the DVD and ask to learn the signals there.

3) Ask the manufacturer what other brand names the product is sold under.

4) Ask the manufacturer for some information about their IR signals, even though their web site indicates they refuse to tell you.

(3) and (4) are also somewhat long shots, but I'd put them ahead of posting a picture of the remote for chance of getting results.

John, the reason I said it is because I know it has worked in the past. There are a lot of people on this site that have played with a lot of OEM remotes (and I don't consider myself one of them)

#1) as you explain it is a major undertaking, it means searching for something that is unsearchable

I didn't say it was a major undertaking and certainly not "unsearchable". I said I hadn't taken the time to try it myself. I just did it and it was trivial.

I went to Altavista and searched for: +dvd +Technosonic +hack
I got three hits, one of them double (total of 4).
I clicked on the first one.
I grabbed the first distinctive phrase I saw and put quotes around it and did an Altavista search on that.
I got a whole bunch of hits, most of which had Mustek in their subject.
I clicked one at random to see that it really was a description of the same hack.
I got the Mustek DVD CCF file from here:

It took far less time than it's taking to type this.
Of course, *I* can't test it. If Vampire is still reading this thread maybe we'll find out whether it works.

One could be a little more careful in the process and find other models as well, but again I'm not taking that time now.
