I work for a University and am thinking of installing the Pronto TSU2000 in the classrooms, is there any more software needed besides what comes with it that will need to be purchased at any time?

No, but I do recommend that you get a charger.

Jessica, what verion of ProntoEdit came with them? If it's not ProntoEdit 4.05 then it's best to upgrade. You can download from here. Also check the firmware.

Read the faq's of this web site.

Jessica,

You might want to consider the fact that the screen is glass and can therefore be easily damaged - especially since you'll probably have lots of users. Not telling you not to get one, Anthony uses lots of these things in a business environment without, I assume, major problems. It is a consideration however.

Yes that is something that should be taken into consideration, as well as the possibility of a $300 remote "walking off" the premesis. Especially since it is something that can be used at home.
Thanks for the input.

No major problems,in the 3 years, 1 glass broke (early on), and one ended up getting a bad screen cable connection (and we just opened it and fixed it). The good thing in her type of environment (i.e. all the Prontos are in one place instead of spread out around the world) is that she can have a couple of extra on hand and if one breaks you just download the config and you are up and running in a few minutes.

As for walking away, there are a few things to take into consideration.
1) if it is a total custom job (i.e. buttons used are designed for the room setup) then the setup might be totally useless at someone's home.
2) to do any serious programming you need a specialized cable (might deter some people), on the other hand, the cable is easy to find

here are some ideas off the top of my head if theft is a real concern

1) if all the rooms are the same from the remotes point of view, then it could be on a loaner system from AV dep or securty desk
2) you might be able to make it "built in", something like [Link: remotecentral.com]

And also when you make a ccf. Make it so it's write protected. So that if someone knows something about the remote. They won't be able to do anything to it. Unless of course they have ProntoEdit.

Thanks very much for the help, do either of you think that there is any major difference that I should take into consideration in choosing either the 2000 or 3000?

Can I find the wall mounting pretty easily to buy?

don't know, that was shown many years ago, and if I remmber it was built as an interface for something. Just thought it might be an idea to combat theft, never tried it myself. But the 3000 also does RF, so if you get a charging unit (you don't want to change batteries in the wall), an RF base that controles the equipment and build a few custom face plates, you should have an inhouse solution.

I also search for the Product [Link: vity.com]
