I am trying to program my Pronto to take the place of my destroyed Uniden SQ-590 UHF C-Band Satellite remote (yes, the dog really did eat (well chew) the remote control).

This satellite supplied a mini IR remote and a UHF remote. The mini remote does not have the MENU button.

Unfortunately, to get to some of the features of this unit, you would press the MENU on the UHF remote and hold for 4 seconds. Then you would get into the installation menu.

Using the mini, I learned one of the buttons, decoded the algorithim, and found all the "key codes" (I've forgotten all the terms, it's been a while since I used all the Pronto tools including Pronto Edit).

So, I can get the MENU single press to work -- it brings up a "different menu" with one press vs the hold it for four seconds.

But when I try to hold it for four seconds, the "single menu" screen just pops up, pops off, pops up, pops off, etc.

So, does anybody have any idea of how I can modify the repeat part of a key's program? Again, please excuse the wrong terms being asked in my questions.

Thank you for telling the whole story of what is going on. From what you said. You have to press and hold the button to bring up the install menu. However, you press and release the same button, it brings up a different menu. To me this is saying that when you press and hold the button on the oem remote, it will not send a single out until the 4 seconds are up. Which must be a tottally different single. So maybe you have to find that ir code.

Rob might be right about this, but there are several other possibilities I think are more likely. I don't want to type a long incomprehensible description of all those possibilities.

If I knew what the Pronto hex looked like for the working short press of Menu, I could eliminate most possibilities for the reason the long press doesn't work. Probably I could just tell you the Pronto Hex that would work for a long press.

And yes, if you just press the menu key (without holding it) you get a different menu then the one you get when you hold the key for four seconds. If I remember (and it has been quite some time since the remote was "modified" by the dog), the "single press" menu comes up and stays while you keep holding the button, and then after four seconds it switches to the "second menu".

I forgot to mention that I used tools from this site to make buttons for all possible 256 IR codes, and then went through them one by one to find which codes mapped to the remote picture in my manual.

So, I don't think there is a separate IR code sent after the four seconds.

Also, the same MENU key pressed once is a key that can be used to leave the "one press" as well as the "four second" menu mode.

Thus, the way the repeat code is programed now is really sending repeated codes with a "pause". I need a "continuous code" for as long as I hold the key. Again, I appologise for not using the correct terms.

Code A works! Brings up menu, and if you hold down four seconds later installation menu pops up.

Code B goes menu on / menu off / menu on / menu off / ... just like my "old code" did.

You said my codes looked "weird". Should I redo all the other codes I generated from the one learned code? Or since they work (well, they are intermittant in the macros I built), should I leave well enough alone?

Again, thanks big time. No more flashing 12:00 -- believe it or not, but setting clock was only available in the installation menu the satellite receiver -> poor design.

Anthony, that isn't weird. It is just the way Denon protocol works. Of course one possibility to consider is that Uniden doesn't know how Denon protocol works and is just using half of it. If Charlie used generic tools to decode they would recognise Denon from a half signal. If he used tools that know correct Denon to reencode they would reencode the whole thing. Or maybe the Unidef RF misuses the Denon code halves and an IR remote can only duplicate that similarly. So your halves of the Denon code ARE worth trying though the orriginal isn't weird.

Charlie, I found a set of signals for the Uniden UST-4500 in a TheaterTouch file. It is Denon protocol (both halves) and is device code 1, just like your signal. The menu function is command 37, while your menu function is command 101. I'm sure it isn't coincidence 101=37+64. I expect either that all of the UST-4500 commands are 64 less than your commands, or that the device ignores that bit (command 37 is the same as 101). Have you tried command 37?

I'll paste in the full list below in case that helps you. Are your commands each 64 more than these.

I notice that command 38 (function 0-B) in the TheaterTouch file is configured to always hold for a long time, but every other command is normal. I expect that fact is related to what you're trying to solve but I'm not sure how.

The one other possibility that fits your symptoms is that the 0702 is too large for the Uniden. Try reducing that to something smaller (reduce both 0702's in your hex to the same smaller value) and see what difference it makes.

1) I guess I should be more careful about typing long answers that show up after the problem is resolved (see above).

2) If the macros are intermittant, you should be able to experiment a little an fix them. You probably already understand that to get the first half of the Denon signal you change the 4'th word from 0020 to 0010 and throw away everything past the first 0702.

As usual, I can think of reasons why using the half signals MIGHT be better and I can think of other things you might tweak instead. If you really want the macros more reliable, experiment a little. I'll offer more guesses after that if you still need ant want them.

I modified all the codes to set the 3rd word to 0000 (some were 0010) and the 4th word to 0010 (all were 0020) and discarded all past the first 0702, and now all macro's behave quite nicely.
