My new Pronto Pro TSU 2000 seems to be losing codes learned from Gateway and BOSE remotes for no reason. Any suggestions?

relearn the codes, make sure they're clean.

do not learn into pe, learn into the disconnected remote, then transfer into pe to tweak.

if all else fails....reflash the firmware.

I've relearned the codes several times. However, I don't know what you mean by "do not learn into pe." What is "pe?"
Thanks for your help.

PE is Pronto Edit. It's the software program used to configure the remote. It's also what you would use to reflash the firmware. It is possible to learn codes while attached to the computer through Pronto Edit. However, experience has shown that it can often be unreliable.

I am relearning the codes while the RC is disconnected from the computer. How do I use ProntoEdit to reflash the firmware? I can't find the command in the menus. Or should I reload the firmware?

Okay, forget the last message. I found the "update firmware" command under the "tools" menu. I updated the firmware and relearned the codes. Now I have to wait and see if that does the trick.

Thanks for your help, Jim.

It's a good idea to reload the firmware periodically - especially when you notice strange behavior. All computer operating systems lose their edge and need "refreshing" periodically.

To reflash the firmware, connect the remote to the computer. From within PE, choose "tools", and then the update or update firmware choice. It's also a good idea to tap the screen (wake up the remote) just prior to reflashing or whe downloading a ccf.

Jim L:

Why is this so "all computer operating systems lose there edige and need refreshing periodically"?

I write programs for PIC chips and loaded the software on the chip once in the last 17 years and it has never failed to work properly.

Why would the Pronto Pros firmware need REFRESHING?

Bob,

As Star said, we've seen it pretty often. Why? I don't know. But (as stated above) I've had hard button problems that cleared up immediately after a reflash.

I'll admit "all operating systems" is overstated. I certainly don't refresh the OS in chips on my car, microwave, phone etc. On the other hand Windows does get a bit stale after 6 to 9 months.

Its pretty easy to make a "Operating System" that does ONE task, and never gets any software loaded into it. Personally, I wouldn't call that an operating system.

Someone who builds a OS and releases it into a public enviroment couldn't begin to comprehend what is going to happen to the device its running on. This is why software (And firmware) fails. Everything you load onto a device interacts with it. Reflashing the Firmware gets the device back to a known good state. Fresh slate.

Jim, after reflashing theoperating system, I relearned the codes. Everything was fine until I tried to use the RC again this AM. It lost some of the codes again. Maybe Philips should replace the unit?

kklarin,

"Losing" codes is unusual. It's been reported fairly often, but is usually operator induced. After relearning the codes, did you download to the remote? If so, it wiped out your current ccf. Not doubting you, just trying to cover the bases.

Personnally, I'd wait a bit before replacing the unit if your unit is brand new. Reflash the firmware again, learn the codes, upload ccf with new codes to the computer. It's of course your call, but a replacement unit from Philips will be refurbished, not new. Better bet would be to get who you bought it from to exchange it.

question, jimmy-b-da-MAN.....(and i think i know your response.....but, in the interest of clarity.....)

do you mean that:

1) "whoever you bought it from" might be able to get you a new, rather than a refurb, from Philips?

...- or, that -...

2) "whoever you bought it from" will replace it with a different NEW one from their stock?
{thus placing the onus on them to get a NEW unit to replace your defective unit in their stock}?

folk who have no HTML experience, have NO idea the BASIC intricacies of this post.

...........don'tcha jus luv it??!!?????>
