I've been searching the forum and trying to figure out how to use this program with no success. I don't know a whole lot about MS-DOS or anything like that, but I can't figure out how to type in the "extract" and "replace" commands. I've renamed both the firmware update and the pronto emulator, like it says, but when I double click on imgrep.exe, it brings up a command prompt for about 2 seconds, then it goes away. Then, I tried running it from the command prompt window, but it didn't do anything, it just went back to the "c" drive. I've tried moving them into the same folder, too, but that didn't work. I was wondering where I could go to find out how to use it, or if anyone out there could tell me briefly, that would be great. If you could just tell me how to extract the images, I could probably take it from there. Thank you.

With Windows 98, ME, or 2000. Use the Start Menu and do the following:

Start -> Run

Select COMMAND.COM and click OK.

From the DOS prompt, navigate to the directory where IMGREP and your Firmware is installed.

Both IMGREP and the Firmware Update EXE MUST reside in the same directory.

Next, from the command prompt, type IMGREP /? and follow the instructions. Once you see the options, you simply enter the commands such as:

IMGREP e "YourFirmwareEXE" old

as documented.

As IMGREP is a DOS program, you must run it in a DOS Window and enter appropriate command line parameters. Thus, it cannot be run by double-clicking the EXE or a shortcut.

It is my understanding that Windows XP and Windows 2003 may not support legacy DOS. As a result, you may not be able to run IMGREP.EXE successfully on these operating systems.

XP "emulates" DOS, but so far it's worked fine with anything I've tried (excluding games that obviously might not like running inside of Windows).

Sorry, I'll try to redraw it for MS Visual C++ when will add a support of RU950/TSU3000 :(
Also you may need to rename a firmware to a short DOS-compartible name - 8-or-less chars name and 3-or-less chars extension (for example tsu6000.exe)

Just a plug for ImgRep here-

This is a very cool deal once you figure it out. We took all the "extra" stuff off the top and bottom headers on the RC-9200 and it totally cleaned up the interface.

Thanks Eigeny!

Another plug here,

I've also used it successfully to change the icons appearing on the device and macro navigation bars.
My macro navigation bar now reflects a "light bulb" and all my related X-10 stuff is located there. Easy switch from device to light...

Martin :-)

P.S. Great work Eigeny!

What exactly did you do to remove images? I see you can extract copies to work with and to replace images, but how do you remove an image all together? I am interested in removing the four default blue buttons on the screen that map to the hard buttons.

You can't remove them - only replace them - even with a blank image, you can still press where they were to do whatever it does.

By blank are you referring to an all white image? wont that still sit on top of the image I am trying to use in Prontoedit to fill that area of the screen?

Also, is there anyway to get Prontoedit to open the size of the windows a little larger to reflect this area so I can set up graphics and such?

Well, maybe not white, but a solid color that matches the background color around the image. Pronto Edit won't modify these images (or that area of the screen), so it won't sit on top of anything. All ImgRep will do is replace the existing images.

Assuming you mean the Macro/Device Menu area, then no. ProntoEdit has no control over images in this area of the screen. The image size is fixed, and even ImgRep can't modify the size.
