Jim, I believe you cannot go back to an earlier firmware, only a newer version. I fear trying it, as I don't want to risk making things worse....

Harris, I had the same problem with a client's remote yesterday.

I updated the firmware, then downloaded the client's ccf for the first time, and there was no problem. I made some changes on the job with the laptop, then re-downloaded to the remote, and I got an error message. The remote popped up with "invalid configuration" and asked me to revert. I pressed the revert, and it went in the reboot cycle.

I reflashed the firmware WITHOUT pressing the reset button, and it cleared the problem. I've never had this problem before the upgrade, so I suppose it may be tied to the update.

John, thanks for the confirmation. Also, you are correct, that the reboot button many times during reflashing does not have to be pressed. When encountering the 2 second beep, I find that it does however, need to be pressed. Otherwise, as you note, it isn't necessary.

I wonder what it is in the new firmware that screwed up BOTH the ccf upload process, and the communication (recognition) between some computers and the 5200.

Knew the backlight update had a catch...

John: Was your client's remote a 5200 or 9200? If it was a 5200, Harris's experience says you may see the problem again in another couple of download attempts necessitating reflashing the firmware again. May not be a big problem since the client is unlikely to update the program.

Seems strange that we have a couple of reports of this on a 9200 - the backlight firmware update is a stand alone program for the 5200 and not part of Touch Screen Setup.

It was a 5200 Jim.

I do need to make a few changes to it when I go back next week, but hopefully I won't see a problem with it.

Jim, and John: Adding to the mystery....

When I disable button sounds and autobacklight, so far I have been able to download a ccf 6 times without any error. Still can't get my original system to recognize the 5200 anymore, however.

Will keep posting any other findings, and a confirmation of the above or a negation of this "fix"...

After a couple days with no problems doing CCF downloads to my 9200, I got the "Error downloading configuration..." error again in TSS. This was after I added 10 panels. The remote seemed to have received the download fine.

Tried the cable from the 5000i and got the same result.

Reflashed the firmware and did it again. This time I got the "Can't get configuration information..." when it started the download. I canceled out of the download.

Tried the download again. This time it worked with no errors reported.

Made a small change by just moving a button on a panel and did it again. No errors.

Made a change by adding a new panel and a couple buttons and downloaded again. No errors.

I can't seem to find any pattern to this.

When the firmware is reloaded, a CCF is also loaded. Is there any way to change this one from the default to my own? That might be a possibility to load a CCF that's getting persistent download problems.

Mike,

Couple of comments which may or may not help.

1: If I attempt to download a ccf to my 9200 WITHOUT tapping the screen first (turning on the remote) I will get an "Error downloading configuration" message. However, if I first save (or save as) the ccf, I can download to the remote just fine. Even if I don't tap the screen first.

2: The only time I repeatedly had errors in downloading a ccf, rebooting the computer cleared up the problem.

No way that I know of to change which ccf is loaded when you reload the firmware.

Marantz 5200 and 9200 beeping

Symptoms
The screen cycling between the startup page, followed by a series of blank screens and regular beeping, before start the cycle again
(Nb This can be reconstructed by canceling a download to the remote.)

Restoring the remote to factory default
1. Connect the remote to the PC and remove the battery cover.
2. Using HyperTerminal, make a connection using COM 1.
3. Now configure the port settings to
4. Bits Per Second 115200, Data bits 8, Parity none, Stop bits 1 & Flow control none..
5. In remote battery compartment, you will find a very small button on the bottom right hand side. Using a paper clip or similar, push this button
6. The HyperTerminal window you should see numbers 02, 04, etc, etc start to appear,
Press ESC and a prompt will appear : CABERNET >
7. Type "dl ccf." And press enter, You should see a growing string of C's appear
8. Click on the Transfer menu in HyperTerminal, select "Send File"
9. A properties box will appear. In the Protocol drop down menu select "Xmodem". In the filename menu press browse then navigate to the folder where you installed the Touch Screen Setup program (C:/Program Files/ Touch Screen Setup),
10. Enter the Samples folder and select the remote default CCF.
11. Click the Send button
12. You should see a progress window open, and the file beginning to be transferred to the remote control
13. Once this has finished, type "go" at the CABERNET> prompt in the main HyperTerminal window, and you should see the remote reboot and return to it's working default configuration, and should now work correctly again.

I have found that the majority of the time, just reflashing the firmware will correct the problem...and that going through the hyperterminal procedure isn't needed in most cases.

I downloaded a file for the Marantz SR7200 and experienced the same thing. I am using XP Pro so I was forced to use the hyperterminal approach, the file must not be compatible or there is a deliberate coding in there that throws it into a constant reboot loop...thanks ukuser.

Athaler, why not just reflash the firmware? As noted, this works just as well as going through the whole hyperterminal procedure, I have found.

I found a solution for the "upload error" problem. I was recently customizing an RC5200 for a friend. All downloads/uploads worked fine until I did a firmware update. Just like everyone else has mentioned here, the errors start occurring after the firmware update. Well, when attempting to perform an upload, I decided to try tapping the screen continuously so that it would stay on throughout the upload process. Guess what! It worked! Previously I had only tapped the screen once at the beginning of the upload process. But, when the screen went off, the upload error occurred. So, as long as the remote's screen stays on during the upload process, everything seems to work just fine! I'm not sure if this same "workaround" will apply to the download process, but I at least wanted to to let people know about this for resolving the upload error which occurs after the firmware update.
