Look for similar model CCF's. We sell the 3800, and the CCF for the 5700 works quite well.

I'm not exactly sure what JVC has even DONE to their VCRs in the last few years in terms of new features requiring new buttons. So, just download a file that similar or slightly higher than your own model and delete the stuff that doesn't work. :-) With that said, there are two 3800 CCFs in the file area.

Look under my name in the complete system files or under JVC/VCR/S-VHS devices for the HR-S4800 .ccf. I have the 4800 and it works virtually the same. It is a good layout if you use Daniel's tab configuaration.

Howdy 11 years later,

I just bought a JVC HR-S3800U VCR at a thrift shop for $5.99! I'm excited to explore the editing functions of this machine. But now I have to find a remote since my $10 GE Universal Remote doesn't have all the functions, specifically a Program button to schedule recordings. Sheesh :-/

Can anyone recommend a decent URC that doesn't cut corners and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, say, $20? Yeah, I'm a real cheapskate.

Get a remote made by UEI. These are manually programmable.
Comcast DVR remote  (usually <$6 on eBay, red OK/Select button preferred, but gray is OK)
Atlas Cable remote     (somewhat more on eBay)
RCA RCRP05B   (<$20 at Best Buy, Walgreens, online)

Use setup code DVD/DVR/AUX 0067  (20067 on the Comcast, if red OK/Select button).
The Program function will not be on a button, but you can assign it to any button using EFC = 00177.
Use the 994 Command instructions to assign the EFC.  The following codes are from a HR-S3500U
