I have a client who we did a wholehouse audio system for. In the equipment rack in the mechanical room of the basement, is all the components for the wholehouse system.
The rack also houses 2 Sony ES pieces, supplied by the client. IR control of the Sony CD changer is no problem, but the Sony ST-D730ES tuner has no IR window. It seems the only way to control this piece is through the 4-pin S-link connector on the back. Does anyone know how to interface with the S-link connection to have IR control of the tuner?

I have seen a CCF file for the ST-D730ES tuner on this site, so I would think form that, that there would be some way to control this piece using IR.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

JJP

Time to resurrect this old topic, as I have nearly the same question.

It's possible to build an interface to control the tuner via its s-link connector. The tuner - assuming it's the same as the ST-S730ES - uses the four-pin s-link connector (1:+5V; 2:NC; 3:TTL in; 4:GND via 10 ohms) , and the SIRCS codes - converted to TTL levels - to control it.

And a question: you refer to the CCF file for the tuner: a newbie question: what's a CCF file and where do I find this one?

TIA

Partial answer. A ccf file is the program (user created usually via ProntoEdit software) that is loaded in the remote. You can find ccf's that were created by forum members in the files section.

Thanks,
Stanley Brown has uploaded a CCF compilation to the CCF files ection that covers the Sony ST-S730ES, and there's another CCF file for the D730ES as well. Now to get out the soldering iron!

I am complete ignorant in low-level hardware electronics.

I have an ST-S590ES, it has a connector: "Control-S", white, 4 pins and I have the flat cable.

Unfortunately, I have to get rid the Sony amp that picks the IR signals and sends commands to the tuner via the cable.

Which hardware should I buy, and what should I do in order to "convey" IR signals to that tuner. Thanks in advance.

OK, using a Vishay TSOP4838 IR receiver chip, a capacitor and two resistors (and 5V power) I've got a receiver that converts Sony IR signals into TTL. It works perfectly when connected to a small Sony CD player via the s-link cable and using a Sony CD remote, but I've not yet been able to control the 730ES tuner because I don't yet have a remote that has Sony tuner (or receiver) codes in it (only a primitive early version Millennium 4).

Any suggestions for a cheap IR controller that has the Sony tuner/receiver codes in it?

Pleased to report that I can get the preset channels to work on the 730ES tuner using code 0158 on the Millennium-4 (Sony receiver). No other keys except the +/- button on the RC appear to work, but it's a start and it proves the tuner can be controlled remotely. Chances are that other remotes set up for Sony Receivers would work.
