I cannot seem to get the remote to power on or off my Yamaha RX-V3800 AV receiver. I have set the remote to work the volume on the receiver. This indicates to me that I have set the proper code 0176, but I cannot get it to power on or off the receiver. Does anyone have an idea?

Your yamaha may not have a power toggle. The discrete codes for power on and off are 248 and 246 respectively (or 00248 and 00246 if your remote takes 5-digit codes) and will need to be programmed onto different buttons. If I were you, I'd put ON on the Power button and OFF on setup-Power. Press and release setup then enter the codes to test them, noting whether the 3 or 5 digit codes work on your remtoe.

To put Power ON on the Power button, press AUX, hold setup for 2 blinks, press 9 9 4, press and release setup followed by the power on code above, then press Power. For Power OFF, repeat the step above, except press and release setup then power in the last step instead of just pressing power. To use it, press power to turn on and press setup then press power to turn off.

Thank you mdavej. I tried your codes and suggestions to no avail. I now entered code 1276 in my Atlas DVR/PVR 1055 remote control. The power turned off on my RXV 3800 Yamaha receiver, but would not turn back on. The Atlas remote still controls the volume and the channel selections. I'm back to having to use the Yamaha remote for power on and off. Any more ideas?

So you tried pressing and releasing setup-0-0-2-4-8 ( or setup-2-4-8 ) and your receiver didn't turn on? I did find a power toggle code of 250 you could also try. The volume up/down codes are 247/251. You could try those to verify we're in the ballpark and determine if you use 3 or 5 digit codes.

I think I am doing everything you have suggested correctly. I do not believe the remote control accepts 3 or 5 digit codes. when I am entering the codes 248, 250,00248,00250 the receiver changes to different listening modes. I didn't try 247/251 because the remote does as I have previously said work the volume and the channels. The Yamaha receiver has a power on or off button and a standby button. Still trying different things. Thank you for your help once again mdavej.

I'll just clarify mdavej's instructions.

First, set the device setup code to AUD/1276 (I think you did that already, but just in case you've changed it)
1. Press and release AUD device key
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 1276

As you discovered, you now have Power Off, but not Power On. You need to program in Power On function using advanced codes. Those are the 3-digit/5-digit codes that mdavej was giving you. Your remote uses 5-digit advanced codes. Since Power Off is already set to POWER button by default, for now lets program in Power On on SHIFT-POWER button.

1. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
2. Type 994
3. Press and release SETUP
4. Type 00248
5. Press and release SETUP
6. Press and release POWER button

The remote should blink twice if programmed correctly. Now if you press and release SETUP and the press POWER, the receiver should turn on. I personally prefer having POWER button as Power On and SHIFT-POWER as Power Off. If you want to do that, I will post the instructions for doing that. There are also advanced codes for all the functions on your original Yamaha remote that can be used to add any functions missing on the Atlas remote by default setting.

bentobox,

If your remote is an atlas, it will take the codes. Just follow kupakai's instructions to the letter and you'll be in business. If it's changing modes, you're missing the setup press or not pressing the numbers quickly enough. Again, to test just one code, give the setup button a good hard press and release, quickly followed by a 5-digit code. When you press the final digit of the code, the remote will send the command. You need to use the same timing/technique when programming the codes. I realize you already have other working functions like vol up/down, but I suggested you try one of those using the codes just to prove it works and to confirm you're doing it correctly. Hang in there.

You are confusing:
* setup codes (4 digits, documented in the manual, representing an entire set of signals)
* EFC codes (3 or 5 digits depending on the model, undocumented for most models, representing part of a single signal, the rest of that signal comes from a setup code).

After a long press of setup, you can enter a command code (such as the 994 Kupakai suggested) or a setup code.

After a short press of setup, you can enter an EFC code. The signal represented by that EFC code depends both on the EFC code itself and on the currently active setup code.

Kupakai is saying that when the currently active setup code is AUD/1276 the EFC code 00248 represents your power On signal.

Wondering if you got this working. I've got the same problem with the Power button turning the Yamaha receiver OFF but not ON.

I followed Kupakai's instruction but once I finish step 6, it only blinks ONCE.

Bentobox, got an update? did you manage to get this working?

EDIT: Got it working, I had to pick another button to be be OFF button. Picked INFO.

1. Press and release AUX (or AUD, depending on what you have)
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 9 9 4
4. Press and release SETUP
5. Type 0 0 2 4 8
6. Press and release the button you want to assign Power on function to.
The remote should blink twice
