I recently bought a URC 8811 remote so that I could learn new functions from my original remotes. Previously, I was using a URC 6131. Anyway, the code for my Magnavox TV was on my 6131, but is not on the 8811. I found a code that would at least power the TV on and open the menu. Then I learned from the original remote the navigation keys for the menu. However, when I hit menu and then hit up or down to navigate the menu, the cursor moves rapidly. Even if I tap the button the cursor moves very fast. I reprogrammed the 6131 to work with the Magnavox TV and then tried to learn the buttons on the 8811. It did the same thing.

Any suggestions?

The first thing we would need to know is what setup code are you using with the URC-6131 and what is the code that partially works on the URC-8811.

Next we need to verify that your learning technique is correct. When you do the learning procedure, are you holding the original remote button down until the 8811 gives the double flash indication that the process is complete?

Finally, have you looked up the setup code that you are using on the URC-6131 to see if it's listed on my site. Maybe there are advanced codes that you can use to program the arrow buttons. We could better advise you here if we know the 2 setup codes that you are using.

The setup code that works on the 6131 is 1454 and the code I am using for the 8811 is 0054.

When I do the learning I am holding down the original button until the 8811 double flashes.

The code for the 6131 works the navigation keys, but I will look on your site to see if there are advanced codes for the 8811 and the 0054 code.

Do you know how to do KeyMoves for EFC numbers on the 8811? (If not, someone will post a link to those instructions).

All commands in the 6131's TV/1454 can be produced using EFC number KeyMoves in TV/0054.

I think the rest of the commands are the same between 0054 and 1454.

I would expect some problems using learned signals for those arrow keys. I wouldn't expect the problems you described and can't explain them. But no improved learning method will ever get them right, while EFC KeyMoves easily get them right.

I looked in my large collection of IR signals and found many Philips TV's that fit 1454 better than they fit 0054, and probably the advanced codes from those TVs that aren't in either setup code match missing advanced codes for your TV (so don't use learning on for this TV, ask for any missing functions). But you can't directly use the EFC numbers for TV/1454 advanced codes in TV/0054. Both setup codes can produce exactly the same set of possible signals via EFC numbers but they don't use the same EFC number, so any EFC number for 1454 must be translated for use with 0054 (as I did already for the list above).

I also found lots of Philips TVs that are closer to 0054 than to 1454 and several Magnavox TVs that are closer to 0054. I found no Magnavox TVs closer to 1454, but that just means I don't have data on your model.

Yes, I do know how to do KeyMoves for EFC numbers on the 8811. I tried them and they work perfectly!!

The select button on the 8811 worked as the menu button when I entered in the 0054. When I tried to learn the menu button from the original remote, it would open the menu, but it would not close the menu using the same button like the original button does. I just moved the select button to the menu button on the 8811 and all is well!

All buttons seem to work fine now, no frantic scrolling by the navigation buttons!

Do you have the volume up/down EFC codes for 1454 to use in 0054? It has the same problem of going very fast.

Vol+ and Vol- are identical between TV/0054 and TV/1454.

Learned versions wouldn't work right. But the original TV/0054 keys should have worked. I assume you know how to delete the learned signals so it will revert to TV/0054's Vol keys.

I assume you tried TV/0054's VOL keys before the learning and they seemed not to work. I'm not sure what went wrong (VPT is one wild guess, previous learned signals or KeyMoves is another).

New KeyMoves might help in covering up some undiagnosed problem, so use them if you like. But using TV/0054's VOL keys without KeyMoves is cleaner.
