I need help. I am unable to learn codes from my Yamaha RX-V596 receiver remote. The Yamaha remote model is RAV210. Hopefully, I am following the instructions correctly.
Press and hold SET until the LED blinks twice
enter 975, wait for LED to blink twice
press RCVR/AMP button
press the L1 key
LED begins to blink rapidly (for 4 seconds)
while LED is blinking rapidly, I press the #1 key (CD input) on my Yamaha remote and hold it - the Yamaha remote LED stays lit the entire time
the URC 8811 stops blinking continuously, then blinks once
it never blinks twice
Am I supposed to wait until the LED finishes blinking continuously for 4 seconds before pressing the Yamaha remote key that I want to learn?
I am aware of the extended codes for 0176 on this site. My motivation was to create an RX-V596 extended codes file once and for all since I have a working JP1 cable. I have found assorted versions of files for Yamaha receivers on this site and others. In fact, I have a Word document from OneForAll with extended codes that are apparently intended for my receiver. If they all agreed on extended codes for the same buttons then I wouldn't be trying this. Now that I can't seem to learn remote codes I'm wondering if I have a defective remote. Has anyone else been able to successfully learn remote codes from their RX-V596 remote?

To teach:
1. press the device key 2. press and hold the SET, for two blinks 3. enter 9-7-5, light blinks twice 4. press a key to learn to and release, the light blinks rapidly 5. press and hold the key on the donor remote, a split second after releasing the 8811 key,do not wait until it stop blinking rapidly. 6. repeat steps 4 & 5 for other keys 7. press and hold SET

Thank you for the update.
With a little more searching I found an old post where one of the members placed the remotes about an inch apart. When I did that I was able to learn remote codes. It's still finicky but if it doesn't work the first time I just repeat. I'm on my way to learning my remote codes.

How far apart did you have the remotes before?

2" apart as recommended in the accompanying instruction manual. At that distance no learning takes place. Maybe the batteries in the Yamaha remote are weak.

Two inches should be perfectly fine, so I would definitely take a look at the batteries.
There's some debate in the remote world as to the exact percentage of problems that are caused by weak batteries, personally I believe it's about 99.5% but others think it's 99.7%. We just can't agree! :)

Interestingly enough, if you are able to learn now, it does not appear to matter in which order the device button is pushed; before or after the 975. In the steps you listed, you pushed 975 and got two blinks, THEN pushed the device button (RCVR/AMP) and the button you wanted to learn to. In the steps edmund listed, he pushed the device button FIRST, THEN entered the 975 and got two blinks, then the button to learn to. Unless you changed the order in which you were implementing the steps, it doesn't appear to matter.

It doesn't matter if you press the device key in step #1 or #3. They both work.

Guys,
I have the same remote control (URC 8811) abd the same learning problem. Tried with several distances (1 & 2 in), new batteries, 981 reset and still doesn't learn. Any ideas?

Man, you guys are all in every forum, don't you? :) Come on, you're the gurus!, help me out here!.
I think my whole problem is that originally I had the RC learn a bunch of new keys, filled up the memory and that kind of confused the RC to the point that won't accept a 981 reset or a new learned key. I found a dump file (factory settings) for the URC 8811 in the Yahoo Group. Do you think it would make a difference to upload that file to the remote once I have my JP1 interface ready?.
