A while back my MX-500 had some problems with sticky, non-working buttons, so I sent it in and they replaced it with a new model, even though it was out of warranty (nice!).

Knowing I would be without my remote for over a week I bought a 2116 and programmed it via jp1 to do 90% of what the MX-500 did. We now use both the MX-500 and the 2116 interchangeably in the HT room, but are mildly frustrated that the Menu/Guide/Info/Exit buttons are in different physical locations on the 2116. We like the MX-500 layout better. Yes, we could re-program the functions on the 2116 to match the layout on the MX-500 for consistency, but the labels would not match.

Is it possible to open up the 2116 and physically reposition the buttons so that the button layouts match that of the MX-500? I haven't tried to open this up, and don't want to if this is not a workable solution. Thanks!

that's what scissors are for!

OK, so most folks don't want to cut the rubber button sheet. I've only done it to replace the 2103's recessed "P" button, but I've considered rearranging keys between my 1995 and 2116 a few times. That would make it possible to add a DVD device key to the 1995 or alternately, to add a plug and power device key to the 2116. As long as you leave plenty of 'skirt' around a tranplanted button, you will probably not be able to notice that it is not attached to the rest of the sheet. You could probably use a little scotch tape if you really wanted to.

I did finally take pictures of my 2103 and they can be viewed in the photos section of the yahoo jp1 group.
