i don't think it's really a device key. In IR it doesn't show up as an available device key.
It's a useful concept in the sense you don't have to waste keymoves moving volume keys to some other device besides tv. I punch through everything to receiver except for sat and tv. the my system key was perfect because i was going to use it for my sat system and would have assigned the tv as the volume group. but once you are in that mode you can't turn anything off with power.
so it's either use another key for a power macro besides power, or not use my system and do the key moves for volume to sat. i am going to try out using the tv device key as a power macro see if that works out for the wife.

My ph1 is not working either. Could this be the reason? I looked in the rdf file for the 2116 and saw this: ph1=41,ph2,ph3,ph4=45,ph5,ph6=58,ph7,ph8,ph9 why the equal signs with a two digit number to the right? On a related note, can I rename in the rdf file ph2 and ph2 to discrete on and discrete off? I have a helluva of a time remembering if I assinged ph2 or 3 to discrete on/off. I remember for the 1994 it had discrete on and off available as keys. thxs. On 11/11/02 18:58.40, JackRelahan said...
Found a way to use the PHANTOM KEY (ph 1-9) It seems, for what ever reason, that (ph1) does not work on my setup. However, this programing works for me: Using KEY MOVES: TV ph2 TV TV 0000 $F4 109(aka 365 or 621) VCR ph3 VCR VCR 0032 " " " " " "
DVD ph4 DVD DVD 0533 " " " " " "
Using MACROS: Power TV;ph2;VCR;ph3;DVD;ph4 (Turns these devices off) (All Sony's)
Hope this will help others with the PHANTOM KEY. Thanks Jack Relahan

Thxs Rob. Again your quick minute chiming in with knowledge helped me figure out why my pioneer dvd player was not responding to my advanced codes. it now works like a charm with the 2116. On 10/31/02 08:32.54, The Robman said...
I haven't checked this yet with the 15-2116, but most new remotes are using a 2-byte protocol for the Pioneer DVD codes now, so advanced codes will no longer work.
To program a key move for this using IR, fire up KM and select "Pioneer DVD2", then enter your EFCs, and let KM convert them to hex for you. then program the keymove using IR, but select the HEX otion and enter the hex value from KM.

Slocko, If you use the latest IR and KM (3.10 and 7.00beta6)you can do the keymoves right in KM,and import into IR,saves jotting down, checking "hx cmd", etc. Since the KM is a beta, we need more "testers" to report any problems if they arise. Jim

why the equal signs with a two digit number to the right? When there is no suffix to the button name, IR assumes it uses the next sequential keycode following on from the preceeding button, but when there is a suffix with either a decimal number (as above) or a hex code (like this button_name=$0F) it will use that instead. So in this case, we have established that Phantom1 uses keycode 41, so phantoms2 and 3 will default to keycodes 42 and 43. We're skipping keycode 44 for some reason (probably a real button) and then picking up with phaontom4 which uses keycode 45. the rest of the phantoms follow on from there. On a related note, can I rename in the rdf file ph2 and ph2 to discrete on and discrete off? I have a helluva of a time remembering if I assinged ph2 or 3 to discrete on/off. I remember for the 1994 it had discrete on and off available as keys. Remember, phantoms don't really exist, they are just keycodes that have not been used for any other purpose. So, you can call them whatever you like. Rob

ph1 is not working for at least two people. should this be raised as a bug? ph1 could be defined as 42 so that 41 will be skipped. it can be frustrating trying to get these things to work especially if you are a beginner. On 12/07/02 13:20.43, The Robman said...

Well still no sign of the new remotes in stores around me (northern NJ), but it seems the 15-2116 is now available on-line at radioshack.com (but not the 15-2117 yet) [Link: radioshack.com]

I have the same problem with ph1 not working on the 2116. I posted the issue on the jp1 site a couple of days ago and got no response there. [Link: groups.yahoo.com] It's not really a big deal though because the other phantom keys work fine. There is probably a minor error in the rdf file. Jay On 12/08/02 09:24, slocko said...

I read this forum and got a 15-2116 and a JP1 cable and am well on my way! Thanks all! Has anyone tried or gotten a 2116 to work with an IR-543? (JP1 or otherwise) I don't have one and am curious if anyone's had experience before I order one.
Thanks, Todd
