Could someone please help? I can't get this remote to accept a learning key when setting up macros. Is this common or just a malfunction with my remote? I had to setup my reciever inputs on different learning buttons. When I setup a macro to TURN ON T.V., SWITCH TO A.V., TURN ON DVD, TURN ON RECEIVER, SWITCH TO DVD INPUT, everything works fine except the receiver will not switch to dvd input(which is button 2L). I tried setting it up over and over again but it would never work. I'm thinking of returning it and getting either the HTM SL 9000 or the R.S. LEARNING REMOTE WITH BACK LITE. Any suggestions??

Phil, Try teaching it to another key that you won't use with that device, ie; PIP on DVD. Then go back and include it in the macro. Good luck.

Thanks for responding Dennis,
If I'm not mistaken there are only 6 learning buttons on this remote labeled 1L - 6L down the left side. Also the preprogramed functions that the manual says should work on my components, even using the shift key, almost none of them work.

Phil,

I suggest you check out the thread entitled
"Cinema 7 Macro limitations for Dave B.
macrowizard." Read the 14th message in that
thread, which is by Wayne. It may help you make
your macro work.

You know, two "One for Alls" later (Producer IR and AV), and I'm convinced... these things don't last long. Both lost their lighting inside of 3 months, both forget macros... sometimes minutes later. One is now in the trash can, the other on crutches until I get a real remote...

This is the first I've heard of the backlighting
going bad. Backlighting is normally done with
LEDs, and LEDs don't normally wear out.

Forgetting macros is more serious. It COULD just
be a software glitch. Have you tried resetting
the remote and reprogramming everything back in
from scratch?

The thought occurs that both of the problems you
describe could be caused by large ammounts of
static electricity. Indium Galium Nitride LEDs,
which may be used in the backlighting system, are
very static sensitive, and so are memory chips.

Do you often experience static electricity in the
area in which you use(d) the remotes?

Actually, these remotes (8800/9800) have switched to electroluminescent (EL) panel backlighting , which gets dimmer slowly over age. I'm assuming the chance for premature failure is higher than LED, though still rare.

I read and tried the thread by Wayne. Could not get it to work. It's been 2 weeks and still nothing from ONE FOR ALL. Having some other problems also. Sometimes lite won't come on when a button is pressed, sometimes certain functions won't work at all without numerous attempts. Oh well, it does do most things pretty well I guess.

Are you using the power on macro? If so, the learning keys appear to be those associated with the device that you gave menu control to. I spoke to tech support at he number given for hudsonag (OneforAll). They indicated that all buttons on this remote, including the shift functions, can be use for learning other remote codes.

I have 8800 and am working to get all functions working but may give in and buy TC1000.

Phil,
I have the exact same problem here with the Producer 8. Even though macro1 is programmed to switch to the correct input it doesn't. Regarding OFA's support see my other response to you.

Thanks for all the help guys but this thing went bust last night. It completely stopped learning on the 1L&2L buttons, works erratically on other keys. If I try to learn on buttons other than 1L-6L it gives an "invalid key" message while in learning mode. Going to return it and maybe give one more a try before giving up. Is the SONY TOUCHSCREEN worth the extra money?

Phil,
Just take the remote in one hand, hold it above your head and slam it down on the floor. If this does'nt fix your problem the first time repeat again and again. Just kidding thaanks for showing me this web site it helped me out.
John J, from the lab
