Ok... The remote says "6 in 1"

but, it does not include the home manegement stuff in the 6. so, it really is 7 in 1.

(Trying to push this back on topic) Yes, the 15-1994 is 6 devices plus control of "Plug & Power" devices. The Cinema 7 features control of 7 actual devices.

Personally, I do prefer the physical appearance on the 15-1994, especially the backlight. However, I've used the Cinema 7 before and it's a good remote too.

C'mon folks, BOTH of these are built by Universal Electronics. Under the covers, they're nearly the same remote. Any operational differences will be minor!

Mr. Tonks,

When you say the 15-1994 can control "Plug &
Power" devices, I assume you mean things like
X10, and that it has a device key for them. If
so, can this device key be changed into a TV key,
for example, with the 992 code?

(I'm assuming that discussions of the 15-1994 is
"on topic" in this forum because it is made by
UEI. Please correct me if I am wrong.)

Well, to be honest I'm not sure what Plug & Power is (that's what it's listed as on Radio Shack's web site). I BELIEVE it is a small device that plugs into an outlet; you plug your component into it. Via RF control on the remote you can switch the unit on and off, similar but not the same as X-10. I've seen this feature on a few other remotes.

Well, according to its infamous owner's manual,
the Cinema 7 can control "IR Home Automation"
(not RF) devices, and has codes for GE, Lutron,
One For All, Radio Shack, Security System,
Universal X10, and X10. Does anyone out there
know the limitations of the 15-1994's home
automation device key, or whatever it's called?
Can it be reprorammed to control a TV or VCR?

Also, does it have an RF transmitter for home
automation control, or is it limited to IR home
automation devices like the Cinema 7 is?

Just curious.

Plug n' power is the same as X-10. The Radio Shack remote is strictly IR. In order to control Plug n' Power/ X-10 you will need an IR543 controller. The same devices can be controlled with the Radio Shack remote as the Cinema 7.

As for the reassigning (remapping)of the Plug n' Power button, I believe it can be done just as the other device keys can.

Plug & Play is Radio Shacks name for the X-10 devices they sell. X-10 works by sending control signals over the AC power lines. The 15-1994 doesn't have an RF output. You need another box that converts the IR from the 15-1994 to the power line signals. RS and others sell that box. For lotsa info on X-10 and other home automation stuff, go to www.smarthome.com.

OK then. I was suspecting it didn't have RF. I've found what I was thinking of... It's the Philips RU880 European remote which (I quote) "...can be used with Philips Power Modules, the clever plug system whereby appliances can be switched on and off by remote, wireless FM signals."

I was confusing "Philips Power Modules" with "Plug 'n' Power Modules". :-)
