I had one of the NeoPronto problems that I've seen on this forum- When I tried to download the flash update (which I got from the Philips site) it dumped my NeoPronto! The error message was something like "CF invalid something something", and nothing I could do would bring it back! I tried this on two machines- my home desktop and my work laptop. Finally, I gave up and sent it back in to Philips. They apparently flashed it and returned it- NO word on what happened or why. In fact, I received the same unit back from them so I was suspicious right away. Obviously, it wasn't hardware that was the issue. As a last resort I brought it in to work and flashed it from a THIRD machine. This time, it was a vanilla workstation, no software added, no peripherals, nothing. It works.
The moral I take from this story is... the Philips software is extremely sensitive to serial port 'irregularities'. I don't understand what the problem might have been- perhaps my Palm Pilot software holding onto the port or something. Needless to say, this is not convenient but it's at least do- able. I'll just have to go to work to program the remote.

As a note, there are many ways to boot into Win 9X or XP and not have any other software running. Even Virus software. That is the safest way to install the flash.

It really seems though that a lot was fixed by that Firmware. I have never had NeoEdit crash or the remote lockup since them days of a year ago.

Now if Philips would just release a better program :)
