Do you think Philips will abandon the neo since they are releasing a new remote very soon and another shortly after? Furthermore, anyone thinking about buying a neo may want to hold off because Pronto prices might drop.

I don't think Philips will abandon the Neo.

The new remotes are more upmarket versions of the regular Pronto, for people who want more customization options and are willing to pay for it. They'll have more features, but cost even more than the current ProntoPro, which is already (IMHO) incredibly expensive for a remote control.

The Neo has a completely different tarket market, aimed at those who:

1. Are willing to trade in some cutomization flexibility for ease of set up

2. Don't need full flexibility so badly that they're willing to pay $300+ for a remote

It's a classic marketing segmentation exercise.

I think the 3000 is a replacement for the 2000 the NEO was introduced as a lower model then the 2000 so I don't think the NEO will be abandoned.

Mtk: I think you are thinking of the IPronto that will be using the new Pronto++

Yeah, I was including the iPronto in 'new remotes'.

Although I don't think the 3000 is a replacement for the 2000. The might continue to sell both.

In any case, the NEO will stay.

Mtk, it's hard to believe that the Pronto 3000 (with a greyscale screen and 4 MB) will sell for more than the ProntoPro (with colour, 8 MB, and RF).

I think the 3000 will eventually replace the 2000, but whether it will do so immediately remains to be seen.

It's probably fair to say that the Neo is in a different price class and shouldn't be affected.
