So, great, I bought this expensive (to me) new-fangled remote called the Neo, it must do everything and anything at that price and be really easy to use. Has to be better than my $20 remote.

Wrong!

It doesn't have the built in codes for three of my devices that I want to control (Samsung HD tuner, Integra preamp, CM rotator).

OK, this is no problem, I'll just "learn" it the codes of these three remotes.

Well, after one day of trying to "learn" this darn thing, it keeps telling me "failed," "failed," "failed." Even when it THINKS it learned something, it doesn't work.

Yes, I updated to the latest software.

Yes, I tried every combination of which key on which remote I press first or last or simultaneously.

I'm about to throw the thing against the wall, it has wasted a day of my life in total frustration.

Do I have a defective individual unit so that the problems would go away if I exchanged it for another one? Or, is this design so bad that it would never work right?

I'm not sure, but I suspect the latter.

What a disappointment.

Any suggestions would be appreciated - maybe for another remote that actually works.

I have read of some people having trouble learning from some devices, however to not be able to learn from 3 seems like a defective unit, I have a fairly complex theatre and have learned ever button of every component, a few took some time but in the end perfect so I would have to think it is a dud. Also if you check the files section you might find some ncf's that have the codes you seek

The only remote I had trouble with learnign was the one for my General Instrument cable box. That one kept giving me "FAILED" messages all the time. I found out though that if i hold down each key on the General Instrument remote a little longer, the Neo has no problem learning the codes.

OK, thanks for the info. I'm going to try a new Neo and see if it's better.

I'll post what happens.

I replaced the original Neo with a new one.

The new one is learning my remotes fine.

I had a defective unit.

Keep this is mind if you get a new Neo and it doesn't want to learn your remotes.
