Hi,

When the pronto came out there was a lot of discussion regarding flaws in the design (vs. the old fashioned Pronto designs). I'm wondering if all that's resolved now:
1. Are the codes identical? Can one move pronto I/R codes into pronto NEO?

2. Is the software stable? Can you do the same things with it that you could with pronto edit?

3. Can you upload CCF files (or whatever they are called back into the computer)?

4. Can you teach the pronto NEO through the software, or do you have to use the onboard interface?

5. Does backlight work properly?

6. Is the software stable yet?

Thanks.

I am not an expert though I may be able to answer some. The software although not perfect works o.k. after some experimenting, you do have to learn through the remote, although you can upload to the computer saving your codes, the backlight works good for me, the neo uses ncf files in place of ccf and are not compatible with ccf, so your choice of files will be limited for the time being, I own both and can say the the pronto without hard buttons sits on the shelf, although the neo cannot do all of the pronto tricks, as a practical every day remote and a resonable price the neo was the right choice for me.

P.S. I was not sure if this the right choice, so I bought from bestbuy, if it had turned out I did not like it 30 day return no questions so this way you can try it for yourself

hope this helps

What Pronto tricks can't the Neo do? I'm a Pronto user but am thinking about switching to a Neo just to get the extra hard buttons.

The Pronto can also do the following that the NEO cannot:

Use SuperNudelist (to catalogue CD's and control a changer)

Beep frequencies can be any value within the unit's range versus the NEO's 100 hz increments

Pronto allows you to have a button label with "no font" so that button can still have a name (useful for links and macros) but not displayed (so it doesn't interfere with a custom bitmap.

Proto allows overlapping bitmaps, NEO does not.

Pronto allows you to rearrange the pages within a device and rearrange the order of devices. NEO does not allow this without the use of a hack program.

Pronto allows you to drag-copy bitmaps from one button to the next, NEO does not. But NEO has a bitmap gallery that helps with repetative bitmap assignments.

These are the major ones, there are more minor ones which deal witht he "look and feel" of the editing software.

Even with these "limitations" I like the NEO better. I still use my Pronto to control my CD jukebox.

I had a TSU1000 for a few weeks, then exchanged it for the Neo. All the Neo limitations listed above are true, but as dshmel said, the Neo is better. It's so ergonomic, its a pleasure to use especially in the dark. After all, the whole point of a universal remote is ease of use and convienence.
