I want the back light to come on whenever I press any button. Is there a simple preference that I haven't chosen?

Go into setup and set backlight above 120 sec's. Display will indicate "on" rather than seconds. Then reduce LCD setting to whatever you want. You'll have to redo this every time you download to the pronto.
