Hi Bill,

Because I've beem reading in this thread about all the problems in the high-end remotes. Although the 850 doesn't seem to have any problems that absolutely require I go back to a previous editor version, I KNOW that the 236 version was bullet proof, whereas I have very little faith right now in the 253 version. I don't want to end up having to recreate my MXF file from scratch! So am I being paranoid? Or smart?

FWIW, I would have never said anything here about going back to 236 had I been able to find a copy - I would have simply rolled back to the previous version.

Thanks, Bill

For those interested, I now have version 1.12.236 for both the MX-700 and MX-850:

If you are on dial-up, note that each file is about 7 MB. I have NOT tested the 700 program. The 850 program tested fine. I have run the latest Norton AntiVirus against each program and they are clean, but don't take my word for this . . . please retest.

A pet peeve of mine still - why doesn't URC update the online history log for the MX-3000 editor? It still says the latest version is .140 from July 28.

I second Dino's motion, I personally am curious to know what caused the dramatic drop in file size. I am sure there are many out there that it is obvious to but I am not one.

I have verified that the problem with the MX editors giving the error "component not found" has been corrected. As I stated in Post 80 I could re-create the problem, as of Monday morning the problem was fixed and I can no longer re-create it.

I have programmed 3 remotes with the new version. I have tried all of the main components and have seen no problems with version 1.12.253. Copy/Paste works, button editor is fine, and I imported 60 .mxd files without a single crash. I will be using this version exclusively now since it has a much improved IR database over the old version 1.12.236.

Anyone that has an issue with MX700 800 850 or 950 editors, please uninstall/reinstall and LiveUpdate to version 1.12.253

Guys, as I stated earlier in this thread, it is due to the way PNG's were supported and stored in the file originally.

[Link: remotecentral.com]

With the most recent update, they did away with the cached BMP's of the PNG's and were able to make the remote use the PNG's directly.

This is the reason for the HUGE file size decrease. The way the BMP's were stored before meant that if you used a PNG on ten different buttons, instead of just having one PNG, you now have one PNG, and 20 BMP's (one for each state, Before and after of the 10 buttons). Now that the remote is using the PNG's directly, it does away with the need for the 20 BMP's to be stored and so the filesize decreases drastically.

I'm still using .236 and will wait until you guys give this new one the YAH BABY signal.
