I am about to purchase an mx-800 used and I was wondering if it is a good choice, I currently own the mx-500 and I really like it. Now I have some "Hex Codes" for an extron scaler and I was wondering if they can be taught to the mx-800 via my computer ,please reply since I need to know before i buy the new remote..

Yes, you'll be able to use Pronto hex codes (assuming that they are standard 0000 learned codes). The method is a bit obscure - you have to first create a Pronto CCF file in ProntoEdit, create buttons with the codes, and then use MX-800 Editor's Universal Browser to load the CCF and then drop the codes in, but it can be done.
