the urc200 has the ability to clone settings from another urc200. can it also be used with an mx850 in this fashion?

No, only with another urc200. Not a RF20 or mx350 either.

tnx. next question, will a plc300 or irx-clone allow programming of a urc200? i know these are designed for the mx500 but was wondering if they would work with the 'automator'? or should i start a new thread?

The IRclone is only for the mx500 & 600. The plc300 only for the mx-650 & 350.
