I lost my remote. I'm buying a replacement. When install the software, should I trash the old software then install the new? I don't know the model of the lost remote. There isn't a beeper on remotes for when they are misplaced is there?

The Model Number is shown at the top of your Client Software login page (just below your name). If you replace the remote by a different model, just click the "Replace Remote" at the bottom right of your login page. It will copy your configuration over. You may need to modify the button mapping to account for the differences.
The (amalgamated) Client Software is common to all models, so no need to trash the old software. However, you may need to update the Firmware. Click "Download" at the top of your login page and verify that you have the latest Software and Firmware. Note: The current Software version you have, may be more recent than shown by the "Download". This is because the Client Software interface does auto-update (incremental to the prime version) every time you use it. So in this case, don't download the software unless you want a back-up copy of the prime version.
The same ideas apply if you use the website instead of the Client Software interface, but some feature locations are not so obvious. The Download Software/Firmware feature is under "Support Center" (top right), and the "Replace Remote" function is under "Support Center > Setup > My Remote". Note: The website interface still needs the Client Software.

All you have to do is click "replace remote" from the home page of the software. If the firmware needs to be updated, it should be done so automatically.
No, the remotes do not have any beepers for finding them when lost. Surely you'll find it eventually.
