Big Picture: The Simple Modifier allows you to make pretty much any change to your configuration. For example, you can add new menu systems, add button bindings, add menu items to existing menus, or rename menu items. To give you an idea, the 'System Options' menu on your harmony (including the full screen graphical icon) is created using a SimpleModifier, and you can view the XML for it to see an example.
