Since I don't have one of these, and I won't buy one until I know the answer I figured I'd ask here. One of my roomies lost the remote to my reciever, so I need a universal that can replace it, but doesn't need the remote to be there to program it. . .

Sounds like the Harmony can do this, but I can't find a list of supported hardware anywhere and Search came up with nothing, so I figured i'd ask here... see if anyone knew.

I'm running a Yamaha RXV596 Reciever, anyone have any idea if it's in the DB?

Thanks all!
-Matt

this brings up a good point== can't we see what devices are supported by harmony before we purchase- i've checked the website, but looks like you need to register your remote first to access this info-- is this correct?

Actually, you can. In fact, you can do much more than that. You can create a login for yourself, then go though all setup process, the same way you do when you setup the remote. Once you did that, you can change mode to advance and generate a simulator script. The simulator is basically Harmony remote on your computer. So you can press buttons, etc. I might be mistaken but I don't believe you need to own harmony for this.

eddieras: which Harmony are you talking about? the original remote has been officially reviewed [Link: remotecentral.com]
and there is also the user review section [Link: remotecentral.com]

As for the one that is coming out (the sst-768) it is not out yet, so no one had a chance to review it.

Let me add, that even if your vcr isn't there, it might be compatible with some IR set by the same manufacturer, that is there. Also, teaching Harmony new commands is very visual and easy and works like a clock. I had very good experience adding some commands from my receiver and tv that weren't there (Headphones button on WEGA, for instance). Nothing like my cheap a** $20 universal remote that I had to sit with for 30 min to teach one button.

Great. Thanks for the heads up. Now to just find the money...

I wish I'd known that you didn't have to have a remote to register. I think i'll take a peek and make sure ALL my devices are supported.

Thanks TVAddict!

Matt: don't think of it as a list of supported equipment. But just as a list of equipment that has already been added to the list. If you have the original remote, then you can easily add your equipment to the list (like TVAdict said).

Therein lies the problem Anthony... that one piece of equipment is missing the remote. One of my roomates lost it, so I was really needing a remote that someone had already done that for me on. :)
