Hi...
I am just about ready to get a Harmony Remote (currently thinking about the 745, unless someone convinces me that I need the 768). But, before I buy I have some questions that maybe someone here can answer. I have a basic setup:
Sony TV Sony Receiver Toshiba DVD Sony VCR Pioneer LD TiVo
So here are my questions:
My receiver has a feature that automatically turns on the TV when I turn on the receiver. Can I turn on the receiver and/or TV in one step?
I live by TiVo and there are several functions that I can not live with out. Are these easy with the Harmony?
1) Pressing TiVo-TiVo to go to now playing 2) Pressing TiVo-2 to show todo (or any TiVo+#) 3) Pressing enter swtiches back to the last channel 4) Fast forward to skip commercials and/or get to the end of a show. 5) Left arrow to go to the delete screen when a show has completed.
Thanks in advance. I did look at a lot of the other comments in the forum.

Just got the 745 a week ago ($149 at the Wiz) and am reasonably happy with it. I got it mainly for my wife to use in our Den (not on main home theater). My den setup is as follows:
Sony TV Yamaha Receiver Samsung DVD/VCR ReplayTV Sony Satelite Tivo (SAT-T60 remotely located) IR543 (Lighting Control remotely located) Remote IR Sender
I had a bit of a problem getting things setup originally (as many people have), but I now have it working at about 90% and am very happy with the remote.
To answer your Tivo questions; it seems that many people use Tivo in different ways. You can reprogram any of the buttons on the Harmony to your own requirements. My setup for Tivo is as follows:
Play Mode: Channel Up - Advance Channel Down - Replay Zap - Record (This covers most of my normal requirements while watching)
Navigate Mode: Channel Up - Guide Channel Down - List Volume Up - Page Up Volume Down - Page Down Zap - Tivo
I set up my ReplayTv essentially the same and the consistency, and simplicity, of the buttons made it easy to learn for others. I do not really need additional features beyond the above for normal viewing, but you can also add items to the menu for functions you use infrequently.
To answer you question regarding your receiver; you can set it up however you like, you can have the TV come on based on the receiver; or you can can have IR sent to turn them on independently, you choice.

I also have Tivo. The 768 does have Tivo like buttons which the 745 does not have. The 768 would be more Female Oriented, in other words easier for them to use the 768 rather then the 745 in my opinion.

The 30-second hack changes the response within the Tivo unit itself to the command from the remote. Once you've doen the hack, any remote with the skip command programmed should work, including the Harmony. Mike www.surfremotecontrol.com

thanks- another question
I have an rca tv (f38310) with built in HD direct tv receiver which also gets HD OTA i also have a direct tv/ tivo (dual tuner)receiver sony 655p dvd denon 2802 receiver good ole vcr klipsch 5.1 surround
right now my tv does all my video switching, while the denon handles the audio- i don't use my tv audio at all. so i watch from 3 different receivers at any given time, well 4 if i count the OTA, which is handled separetly on the RCA.
will this remote easily handle the above--? do you name the activites yourself? could it be set up to: "watch tivo" "watch HD" "watch OTA"
or something similar, but still easy and wife-proof?? thanks!

do you name the activities yourself? could it be set up to: "watch tivo" "watch HD" "watch OTA" there are default names, but you can rename them. right now my tv does all my video switching, while the denon handles the audio- i don't use my tv audio at all.
will this remote easily handle the above--? Yes, for every activity you tell it what to use for audio/video and anything else it needs to know, so that it can be sure to turn on the right devices and change to the right input

glad to help. I will order mine from Harmony, since they are offering an upgrade package (I have the original remote, but this looks cooler) but if I were to buy it new I would look at the advertisers on this site. In no particular order www.AVSmarts.comwww.surfremotecontrol.comwww.bluedo.com

hey = another question guys-- i know this is an "activity based" remote- but can i still do minor commands for different devices? say for instance, change the speaker output on my a/v receiver from stereo to 5 speaker stereo?? (which is obviously a option on my a/v receiver!)

in any action you have access to all device used in that action, and you can always add/remove stuff from main menus and hard buttons
