OK. Here is the problem. I have a SCI ATLA 3100 cable box and when I put HBO channel 500 one of my favorites, I can't get the channel. In fact I can only get 2 digit channels. To get HBO, I have to manually type in "500" on my cable box /numbers setting. Also, when surfing in favorites mode, the up channel button only goes to the next favorite, not the next actual channel. How do I fix this?

I think you have to have your display in the "all" channel mode to surf that way. I noticed when the mode is in "favorite" it follows that guide.

I am a novice, but I will take a stab at it.

open the device, then go into "Characterize a device."

on mine there is a page(went through a few pages first) with this list
- Two numbers (for example, for channel 2, I press '0' then '2').
- Three numbers (for example, for channel 2, I press '0' '0' '2').
- Number(s) and then enter (or select) (for example, for channel 2, I press '2' then 'Enter')
- Number(s) only (for example, for channel 2, I press '2'; for channel 9456, I press '9' '4' '5' '6').

Under your activity pick options there is one called "Smart Channel Changes" I have not tried it, but it might take care of it.
