I am thinking about getting another DVD jukebox. Which one do you recommend?

Depends.. I have been looking at them for a long time now and while there have been many very good ones out there (Sony, etc.) none did what the Kenwood 5900 or 5050 (which I got) does.. Specifically:

1. Progressive scan for DVD's
2. Connectivity to the net via the NetTamer software which downloads to the 5900/5050 Artist/Title/Track info. Made setting up MUCH easier!

Got mine via www.Crutchfield.com for $799 and am thus far very pleased

You may be right.. I had already named them prior to using nettamer... BTW slocko, have you been able to get the On and Off commands for it yet? (5900/5050) ? They are the last things I need for my CCF!

I haven't checked into this vis-a-vis DVD jukeboxes but Sony has THE ONLY interface for 300+ CD jukeboxes if your ultimate intention is to control the jukebox from a PC.

Actually the Kenwoods (5900 & 5050) NetNamer software can control (play, stop, pause, etc) via it's connection to the changer...

Right you are Kenny. I just checked out Kenwood's site and their stuff does look interesting. I don't know where the Kenwood now stands with hardcore hackers but it looks like they should be a contender.

I started out with an RCA 300+ cd changer that was great for the price and I just got a APEX DVD that plays everything. I can see though that I'm gonna need one of those Kenwood or Sony numbers that plays everything (CD & DVD) AND let's me control the works from my computer.

One of the biggest +'s I experienced when I first got the RCA was that I was able to get all my CD in the unit and accessible and GET RID OF (as in store in the basement) all the jewel cases.

Barman-
Jump on over to AVS Forum and take a look at the threads in the DVD Hardware forum. Lot's of info about the Kenwoods.

Here's a couple of links to get you started.

Know what you mean but mine was so the CD's/DVD's did not get lost! My kids (BOys 14 & 17) tend to "borrow" them and then of course never to be seen again.. :P The 5050 keeps them in one place!

Just my $0.02 re the AVS Forum and Hometheaterspot: I researched changers literally for a couple years. Frankly one of the, if nto THE, biggtest reasons for the delay in purchasing was sites like them. What I mean is they pretty much never seem to ever be statisfied with anything except it is over the top expensive. I got the kenwood 5050 and am extremely pleased. Sure, wish it changed discs faster, etc. , etc. but overall great unit

they are a great source of information, but you always have to make your own decision.

if you spent a lot of money on a hd tv you want the best possible picture. that means a progressive dvd player. if you want a jukebox that means that only kenwood can provide you with a progressive jukebox for dvds. if you read avsforums, you discover that someone at CES asked pioneer when they would have something, and they couldn't answer anything concrete. Sony was basically a no-show. So for now and the foreseeable future, kenwood is the only show in town.

also if you read the forums you know to stay away from the entre. it makes the kenwood player stop at the 1:45 min mark. that would make any one angry that you spend $1400 on the entre and $1400 on the dvd player and you can't even watch a movie without having to reboot the thing to finish watching the movie.

thxs to avsforums, i have refrained from buying the entre even though it is one cool piece of technology.

Here is a question: Is it better to use the Toslink or digital COAX or the 5.1 outputs direct to the 5.1 inputs on the receiver for DVD sound?

Kenny, my first choice would be coax, second toslink, third 5.1 (no bass mgt.)
