Any opinions on the plam sized (5X5X2) Panasonic portable DVD? Panasonic claims it'll feed your home theater with both S-Video + Component output, as well as digital audio out. With 280,000 pixels on its 5" LCD screen, I calculate about 500 lines of resolution for portable use. At under $800 mail order, it looks pretty good.

I have no experience with it, but it sounds pretty good. Raw DVD resolution is 720x480 (345,600 pixels), so 280,000 pixels averages about 700x400 - not bad at all.

I saw one at The Good Guys this weekend. Doesn't look like it has component output -- neither me nor the saleman could find component output jacks. Course, that doesn't mean too much. It does have s-video, hard to miss that. The salesman said that the yellow jack could be used for either optical or coax digital output, depending on the cable used. It has stereo audio analog output.

While watching "Mighty Joe Young", the picture broke up into boxes in a couple of fast moving scenes. I noticed that the disk was well used from marks on the top -- didn't get a chance to check out the playing side tho. ALso didn't get a chance to see the video on a TV.
1. Anyone using this little box in their home theater?
2. Is it normal to have the picture break up in fast moving scenes? Anyone with this box have a simlar problem?

The Panasonic L50 is a real gem. It does not have component video outputs though. There not much point when you consider that the DVD picture engine is only of average quality in comparison to a full size product. It is however the coolest, smallest, sexiest bit of kit you'll find. Check out also the new offering from Pioneer.

Cheers Matt
