I just purchased a Toshiba SD5700 DVD playerthis i have a few questions i hope some one can answer. The literature for this unit says it has Super ColorStream Pro® Progressive Component Video Output with CINEMA MODE, 1)what is CINEMA MODE. It doesn't say anywhere on there site or in the manual. 2)It also mentions this unit is PLUGE compatible, there is no setting for this that i can find so what does that mean (i know what a pluge signal is). 3)Also what is 8:8:8 processing. They mention on the Toshiba website that this player has all of these things but it doesn't explain what they are. Any help understanding these features would be great, thanks.

So your DVD player support progressive scan with 3:2 reverse pulldown and can output video signals which are "blacker than black".

Progressive scan is only relevant if you have an HD capable tv or projector. The component output is 480p signal instead of 480i (regular interlaced).

3:2 reverse pulldown (Cinema Mode) is the method used to convert individual 24fps interlaced frames into a 60hz progressive scan without creating many video artifacts. Once again, unless you have an HD capable tv it is irrelevant.

A "Pluge" is a video test pattern which displays a gray scale and two black bars. The black bars are different levels of "blackness", with one of them being blacker than the standard black level of 7.5 IRE. Some DVD players cannot output this "blacker than black" signal, hence causing some hassle if you want to set up your system using the Video Essentials disc.

Actually, the frame-rate pulldown is specified as 2:3, not 3:2.
