I'm debating on getting one of these units and have a few questions that I havent seen in all the posts about them, so here goes.

1) Can these units (the 5900M and or the 5050M) play VCD's on CDR media (homemade VCD)?

2) I currently have a Sony DVP-S7000 (and a 5 disc Pany). Will I notice a picture quality change from the Sony to one of these Megachangers? I dont have HDTV yet, nor do I have progressive anything yet. HD set is in the plans next year though.

3) Between the 2 models from Kenwood, is there really much difference in picture and audio quality? I read the specs on both units, and the 5900M has some fancy sounding components compared to the 5050M, but do they really improve quality that much?

4) I've heard rumors that some mega changers "eat" the discs. Do the Kenwoods have this problem?

5) If I get a 5050M now, can I later get a 5900M and daisy chain the 2 together, or is it required to daisy chain the same models together?

Thanks for any info and help. If there are other concerns I should be aware of please let me know (other than the depth of the units).

1) I can answer the first question - I have successfully played a VCD on my player that was created with Toast Platinum.

3) I belive the main difference between the models is that the 5900 plays DVD-A the 5050 does not. I could be wrong here though.

4) I wouldn't move the unit with ANY discs inside (See my post in the longer thread on this player in this forum). All though I can say nothing was consumed, or even bitten into.

5) The manual is for booth players, and states: "Up to three changer units can be connected in series." I would guess from that statement that they do not all have to be the same model, but that is just a guess.

Other concerns - I'm not to sure about the user interface yet, although I don't have any discs labeled yet. The 3 disc rental zone works great though.

Picture = very good (although I am using interlaced out put at this point.

Audio =very good (my first experience with DVD-A has been great, although I only have 2 discs.)

Switch tome between discs = very slow! Not only the transport mechanism, but because it plays so many formats it takes a bit for it to decide what format its reading. (perhaps a price to be paid for the units versatlity).

I've just started playing with it though.

Take a look at the forums over at www.avsforum.com There are some threads that go into depth on the 5900 and should answer all your questions, plus the ones you don't know to ask yet! :) Reference your question on daisy chaining, several people on the avsforum threads mention that they have a 5050 chained to their 5900s.
