I have two Philips DVD players the 400 and the 850 and both units have problems with miscellaneous DVD movies. Someone I talked to me let me know that there is a code you can use to remove all region codes. I would assume this would help my problem. Could you provide me the necessary steps on how this RC6 235 hack works and what remote(s) do you need to make this work? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Philips will not repair it or send a CD-ROM (which they use to do) to fix this problem. They will exchange it with me giving them my unit and a check for $125. This is BS. So if anyone out there has codes, a CD-ROM, or any other method of getting these units fixed, please let me know.

Hi

It is not clear if you actually have problems with region codes (playing Region 1 discs on a Region 2 player) or if certain discs "hangs" the player at specific points during playback.

To make the players region-free (1st problem) and to upgrade the firmware in the players (2nd problem) you can visit [Link: home.zonnet.nl] to get guidance - I did both with the instructions provided and it worked like a charm.

Good luck.

Allan,
Thank you for responding. That site had a lot of info. But it did not have the instructions or downloads for older model DVD players. I could not find my firmware version on either of my to models the DVD850AT (Manuf. Sept'98) or for DVD415(or DVD400) manufacturer around the same time. It is not a region problem, it is strictly the firmware upgrade that is needed. I'd like to try the upgrades listed, but there is no link for JV to respond to, to inquiry about the models I have. I can not verify the firmware version on my units that I can tell. Do you or anyone else out there have any other suggestions, besides buying new units. I'm having a firmware upgrade problem with a Toshiba SD2107 DVD player as well. Any suggestions? All units are region 1.

Unfortunately this is the only site/person I know who has info about Philips DVD upgrades. Try searching some more - or ask Jeroen (he gives this e-mail somewhere on the site: jeroen78@hotmail.com).

Good luck,

Allan
