I have two daisy chained F-07 that I use for CDs (400)and DVDs (40). I know that the contents are accesible via the serial port on back. Does anyone know of any applications that have been written for this? At a minimum, I'd like to back up the contents I've typed in. Second, I'd like a list of all my CDs, DVDs I can manage. Third, I'd absolutely love to control the players through a CDJukebox-esque interface. I know that slink-e controlling Sony CD jukeboxes can do this, but I've already invested in the Pioneer, which works pretty well so far. Suggestions?

i once did some research and found two products. i don't remember anymore, but they were on the expensive side. if you do a search on f07,727 you might find the old threads.

just bought the kenwood 5900 and i am considering returning it. can you believe you can't enter title and group information on the tv screen. you have to depend on the little screen of the unit itself. the interface is no where as intuitive as the pioneer unit. i'm considering getting another pionner to daisy change and then getting a single progressive scan player for those movies that you want to take advantage of progressive scan. another pioneer mega changer and a progressive scan dvd player might actually be cheaper than the $1400 I paid for the kenwood.

Thanks for the tip. I'm still searching for something here, and on Googol, but no luck so far. Also, thanks for the tip about Kenwood. I had been thinking that would be a good box. I'm considering getting a DVD recorder after the holidays, maybe it will have progressive scan. However, since I have a standard TV, it wouldn't do much good.

I found one of the urls in my bookmarks.

[Link: escientconvergence.com]

I found my information by reading professional reviews online. One of the reviews, don't remember from where mentioned two pieces of software, this link being one of them.

I'm so tempted to return the kenwood and just hang on for a better pioneer next year hopefully. the picture is amazing on the kenwood. even without hdtv it does improve the picture a bit. the unit is slower than the pioneer also.

I searched in pioneerelectronics.com, and found that the RS-232 spec is available. They also mention Escient as a complete application. Thanks for the link, the tunebase100 looks like what I want, but since it is basically a custom computer, it will probably be pricey (I was just looking to purchase software to run it off my own computer). Phast replied that they don't have anything now, but could write it custom (I bet that's not cheap!).

you mentioned that the spec was availible - can you send the link? I tried to get it through customer service, and someone scanned the RS232 command set for me, but the scan was unreadable. If anyone can get the specs, I'll write the code (I am only semi-successful controlling it through an IR link from the PC - for some reason, I can not get the "search" key captured - had trouble with a Phast system, now have troubl with a PCLinc system.

Eric, I've sent the spec to you separately. FYI, the Search key works fine on my Pronto. I downloaded it somewhere from the files section.
