Just picked a floor model up for $320. (I hope that's a steal.)
Anyway, it seems that none of my DVDs or CDs have the text embedded in them. I had to add a memo to every one of them.
Are there any tricks or tips I should know to operate this thing? (i.e. What's that second line for in the Explorer entry. It looks like I should be able to add more than 16 characters per disk.)

Any help or suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

Six, the price was terrific; twice that would be decent. I don't know about the problems you are having, though. I'm going to guess by your questions you are missing a manual. Sony should be able to help you and/or answer your questions. Plus, someone else here will no doubt chime in, so be patient.

The second line in the Disc Explorer is not for your use. I'm not sure it is used for anything. Yes, you can only enter 16 characters for a disc. Suggestion, use a keyboard it is much easier.

As far as the price goes, Best Buy had it for $500. I would say you got a deal.

Enjoy the Show!

You definitely made a good deal. The second empty line can not be edited (and a manual doesn't help, I'm afraid). I have only found a few Region 1 discs with text and pictures embedded (e.g. Proof of Life and 2 out of the 3 Die Hard movies in the Trilogy).

Only a few DVD's have the text on them. Mostly from Sony(duh). I would STRONGLY suggest getting a key board. You can enter the titles much faster. I can type all of mine in, in about 30 min. And, that is over 120 disks.

I just got a dvp 870D, I read someplace that many people were complaining about jamming. When I first set my unit up it did jam allot, I bacame disappointed right off the bat. I have found however that a DVD jacket under the front of the unit to give a bit of a tilt has corrected this issue 100%, no jams in the past 1.5 weeks, no jams since the first day, and it was jamming every 4 - 8 disks during the initial load.

I will be removing the disk jacket and then removing the rear feet, this will look better I am sure.

Thought I would write this tip in case anyone else had a problem.

Jwilliams I use Dr. Sholl's blister pads for the feet they may be pink (you could
use a marker). They are cheaper by far than ruining Disc cases!
