I know it's called a video cd but what difference is there between that and a DVD? I was wondering since i saw this mentioned on the CTHD thread.
Couldn't help but notice the Star Wars Trilogy on that format, that's why i'm so curious.

VCD is basically like the VHS of the digital world. It's got pretty bad picture quality, pretty bad sound, and only holds 50 minutes of footage. Of course, the good thing about them is that you can make them on your own computer, on regular CDs. That's why there's bootlegs of movies in this format. But I would keep your VHS of the movies, since you won't be gaining anything by going to VCD. I also wouldn't ever buy these movies on DVD to support that evil talentless hack, George Lucas. That's just me, though.

You can go to www.vcdhelp.com to get more information. There're some advantages with VCD over VHS even though the quality cannot compare to DVD.

Personally, it takes a REALLY good VCD to look better than a good VHS tape. I think the picture can get pretty close, but audio tends (to me) to sound too "digitized", like a low-quality MP3.
