On Feb 4th i Recieved my 709 from TECHTRONICS, I plugged it in and immediatly found that it would not load my R1 Summer of Sam.It also had a scuff mark on the top of the plastic front panel which didn't concern me too much at the time! ( this becomes relevant later) So i started to try other discs without a problem!
But i found that player skipped mainly toward the end of film, and had lip sync problems, R1 & R2.
So i contacted them straight away and they said that i should try to find someone on a message board with same player/ firmware AND the same trouble!!! HOLY GRAIL OR WHAT?
So after a week or so i sent it back with the Summer of Sam disc for proof. I rang them on March 8th to find on what was going on because no-one had called me! They said that it was a faulty laser and that i would have to wait for about another 10 days, so i agreed. On March 10th Two days later, my player to my surprise arrived at my door. I plugged in again to find no change. I rang Techtronics again but the all to familiar,-" the engineers not here right now" excuse was by now wearing a little thin with me.
So Monday 13th it went back again! With the promise that "FIRST THING TUESDAY MORNING I'LL HAVE AN ENGINEER LOOK AT IT" I rang at 1:30pm On Tues 14th, and it hadn't even been looked at! So he said he was going to do it now! I rang back to find that it need a new drive, Again, because thats what he said had been put in the week before. So i asked for a replacment machine, A Pioneer player and that i would gladly pay the extra £130.
To which he replied that couldn't have a replacment because there was a small scratch on the side of my 709! Well i hadn't done it for sure! It wasn't there when it left me, and it was still in the original packaging. But in which case what about the scuff on the top that i know only they could have done. But they weren't interested in that one!!!! So i continued to get nowhere with there Tech support staff and he put the phone down on me!!! GOOD BUSINESS.
I could almost hear the ginger haired temptress of Watchdog calling me, GOD bless Anne Robinson. Anyway i rang the Citizens Advice and Consumer Affairs and they said even if there was a scratch on the player the item was still faulty, I had given them chance to repair it and that i was legally entitled to a refund or exchange. So i rang them back to explain what i had been told and a chance to now replace to player, but they still insisted that i HAD to have it repaired. So as from this evening it is in the hands of the legal eagles. BE WARNED!!
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS EVEN IF THE COMPANIES DON'T!!!!

Yo! Seems to me that I would be totally satisfied with a company too if my machine was shipped and worked properly.

I think what Deano is trying to say is that if your machine ever needs warranty work from this company, think hard about the trouble he had to go through. That would definitely influence my buying decision.

IMHO
