I recently purchased the RCA RC5910P 5 disc changer,+,+
and then sat down to watch my very first DVD ever..American Pie..and was amazed at the clarity, but sorely dissappointed at the amount of "skipping" or 'freeze framing" it was doing! Although the incidences would last only fractions of seconds, it was annoying. I then proceeded to watch my second DVD "In the hands of the Enemy" and again awesome graphics, but skip city. What I don't know, is whether this is just an attribute of DVD's in general, or whether my machine needs help? I would love some feedback and experiences...Lonn

" just an attribute of DVD's in general"
No, something is very wrong

"whether my machine needs help"
possible, but without more information and lack of experience with your specific player, I would guess your problem is the dvd's themselves.

Did you rent these dvds? If so, check them for cleanliness and scratches. DVD is more sensitive to scratches and dirt vs say a CD. I have 45+ titles on DVD and have only had one skip. Of the ~10 titles I have rented, almost every one skipped unless I cleaned it, and some had scratches that cause the disc to lock up.

If you dvds are brand new, then it could still be the discs themselves, or it could be the player. I have no specific experience with your player, so could not comment further on the player. I did find one comment on audioreview.com about the RCA 5510P having problems with skipping discs. Could not find the RC5910P listed with a review.

I own those DVD titles and have not had the problems you mentioned. I may get one "skip" or freeze per movie. I have a SONY 530 player.

*One* small pause would be the layer change.

LONN: you will get a slight pause during a layer change. i have over a 100 dvd's in my recent collection ' and i have never had a skip. sounds to me,that you may have a laser problem or some sort of mech. problem. i'm not an expert, so i'd take the unit back to where you got it. get a replacement or change models. the more junk you got on there, the more problems your gonna have. get a single player disk with dd and dts. good luck.

Like steve I also have over a hundred DVDs (136 to be precise. I have two dvd players (a sony DVP-s300, and a DVP-s7000) plus a DVD-rom unit and the only freezing I have seen is with the 300 and Ninja Scroll, other then that everything is fine. I also rent about four or five a month and have only had a few problems, all the result of dirty or scratched disc. Was your unit new or a display model? if new you should return it and try a new one. If the new one has problems then abandon RCA. There are many other great companies out there. ( I love RCA but still think that Sony blows them out of the water where quality is concerned)
