Have any of you Matsui DVD owners noticed the audio stutters, whist playing films?
I’d say 3 out of 5 films I play show this annoying characteristic, I’ve even had the unit changed once to no avail. A couple of examples are ‘The Mummy’ & ‘The Matrix’.
Just a few seconds into ‘The Mummy’, 22 seconds to be exact whilst the Universal logo is rotating around the globe you hear the first glitch, this carries on throughout the film. I’ve recorded a few of the times so you can try yours:-

The Mummy
Chapter 1 22 Secs
Chapter 1 5:55 – 6:10
Chapter 3 11:40 – 11:50
Chapter 4 22:15 –22:25

The Matrix
Chapter 1 2:42 Just after ‘No Lieutenant your men are already dead’
Chapter 1 2:52 Just as Trinity is givin’ the copper a good kickin’

Plus Many More…
It also happens regularly when the scene changes in many films.

I’ve also tried every combination in the audio settings from the menu PCM/Bitstream etc.

I know to DVD’s are good as they play on my PC perfectly and my friend has a Toshiba DVD player, which also plays them flawlessly!

The only information I have for this player to date other then the region unlock code, is the following:-

The DVD Processor is an ‘OMEGA-DVD 55-1700014-21-02 STi5505AVC-X OP J700 07JULY99 REV.2 08700 100 484’ manufactured by STi

My firmware is dated as follows:-

Software Datecode 991103
Checksum 4A08BBA2
Macrovision V002 (this can be found by pressing ‘menu’ twice)

Some people my find the audio glitches not to be a problem, but when you’ve got your audio all rigged up you expect it to function as it should. And before you ask it’s nothing to do with the stereo it’s attached to, it still does it through my TV via the scart!

Cheers

I don't know about the mummy, but the matrix sounds fine on my Matsui Player. The type of audio output may be set up wrong or the disc may be faulty.

Audio setup is fine, also I've tried 2 copies of the matrix and 3 mitsumi DVD players(the 2 I’ve had and the display model at Currys) and they all stutter at the same place, It's that obvious that they offered me a refund.

A word of warning, I then went out and brought an Ariston DVD2000, which is the worse DVD player I have ever used, the fluorescent display panel flickers as every second counts! It can’t remember the position of a DVD when you power off or stop the disc thus no resume. Which is annoying. The remote control is utter crap, it’s obviously just a universal remote used for TV etc, i.e. no defined cursor pad just rows of identical keys, and the text detailing the functions is all in the same colour. The welcome screen is a ruff jpeg image which is blocky. If you zoom the image the frame frate drops to about 10 frame per second. Also the unit was faulty, it would play the matrix and the mummy fine, but the video & audio corrupted on ‘She’s all that’ and ‘Pulp Fiction’. Now after another refund I’m left without a DVD player and a stack of DVD’S!!

I’m now thinking of getting a Shinco 8320 DVD player, anybody had any experience with this player.

Or maybe I should just put my hands in my pocket and buy a well known branded model!

A Final note.

The Mitsumi is a far superior player to the Ariston, but has it’s problems, which I’m sure a firmware update would fix. Also I’ve noticed that ASDA are selling the Schneider DVD 810 which is the same as the Mitsumi DVD-110 but with Dolby 5.1 for £199. Though I’m not sure if this one is multiregion via the remote, I’ll keep you posted!!
